Reflections On a 40th High School Reunionby Bob HarrisTo Roger Brockman and Paula Rothman Holtzman: the two of you are obviously going to Hell because neither one of you looks like you have aged a day, and the only reasonable explanation is that you have sold your souls to the Devil. To Alan Barth, Stan and Adie Mestman and Gary Saks: It doesn't seem quite fair that you are having that much fun and that you get to live in San Diego. To David Handsher: You still have that look in your eyes like you're about to do something subversive. Keep up the good work. To Max Reif and Bob Mellman: When I saw the two of you I did not see two 58 year old men, but rather two eight year boys I used to ride my bike with to the edge of the earth (which was Blackberry Lane School). To all the nice girls who said they would have gone out with me in high school if I had asked: thanks for the nice lie, or if by chance it is true, I was the densest teen age boy on the face of the planet. To Mimi Fiszel: When I saw you, I did not see a cancer survivor. I saw an 18 year old flag bearer bathed in golden sunlight on a Saturday afternoon in the Fall of 1965. To Ricky Schainker: You broke my heart. Heroes are never supposed to get old, and ever since I faced off against you in Khoury League baseball at age 7, you have always been my hero. To Kenny Buchwach: There is nothing worse than a guy who's doing well and acts like a jerk That is not Kenny Buchwach. He knows he's got it great and is grateful. Thank you Kenny for showing the rest of the idiots you don't have to be an a-hole. To all my wonderful classmates who came up to say hello to me(especially Trip Schweitzer who got to me at the end of the Busch Stadium event): you made my day, my month, my year. I did not vote for a 45th reunion. I am voting for a 41st reunion! |
