Marc H. Alper

Spouse: Penny Neuman Alper

Phone number: (314) 878-8075

E-mail address: marc.alper@alperaudi.com

Present occupation: Structural Engineer/Principal & President of Alper Audi, Inc.

Life and Family:  Life's been very good, and we do enjoy it to the fullest. Fortunately we're all healthy, happy and comfortable.  We have 3 great kids, mostly grown up now. Greg, the youngest, is a sophomore in engineering at Bradley University; Laura (28, MA in Journalism from Mizzou) just got married and is a director in Chicago of various cable-channel documentaries (she was nominated for an Emmy for a National Geographic series about 9/11); and David (32, MBA from SLU) has his own successful business a few blocks from U City HS making beautiful glass jewelry, mezzuzahs, keepsakes, neon and artwork. I anticipate a wedding for him sometime soon. Penny "retired" several years ago from teaching and as a Parent Educator for Parkway School District, and now is a heavy-duty volunteer.  She is now the President of J-Associates, an active group at the JCC.

My work has been great, and I still enjoy it immensely.  My firm, Alper Audi, (not a car dealership - my business partner is Andre Audi) is a vibrant, growing structural engineering firm, currently with 26 people.  Working for architects, contractors, developers, and owners we design a wide variety of buildings for commercial, industrial and institutional projects with a construction value of nearly $1 Billion dollars each year. Designing office buildings, schools, hospitals, university buildings, condominiums, distribution centers, arenas, hotels, theme parks, manufacturing, retail and mixed-use centers and more, (some of them award winners too), keeps it very interesting and challenging.  Some local projects that you might recognize include CBC High School, Shaw Park Place, St. Louis Ram's Practice Facility, Alberici's Headquarters (rated the "greenest" building in the world), SLU Arena, The Crescent condominiums, The Boulevard (Maggiano's etc.), the Galleria and lots of others.  We are very proud that Alper Audi received an award from the American Subcontractors Association as Best Architect/Engineer in St Louis, the first year they gave out the award.  I am licensed to practice in over 30 states, and more than half of our work is outside of the St Louis area.

I have gotten myself over-volunteered as well - but it's all good stuff, and I am honored to also have received several community service awards.  I am the Chairman of the St. Louis Men's Group Against Cancer (a wonderful charitable organization; BTW our main event Sports Dinner is November 6, 2006, check out www.mensgroupagainstcancer.org); Vice-Chairman of the Jewish Community Center and active in the reconstruction and revitalization of the J's campuses; I am the most recent past-Chairman and former National Director of the American Council of Engineering Companies (MO), and a former officer and director of our synagogue.  I am also a director of Enterprise Bank & Trust in Clayton.  Volunteering has been very rewarding and has allowed us to make new friends and reconnect with old ones.

Penny and I have a fantastic condominium and boats at the Lake of the Ozarks, and go there whenever we can.  I also try to ski (Colorado & Utah mostly) several times a year, and occasionally I golf, (not well).

Next 10 Years:  I'm looking forward to being a Grandfather, (can you believe that we're all that age?), and being able to play more and travel more for fun. But because I still enjoy my work, I expect to continue working for a while longer.

Favorite Memories:  All of the good friends and the fun, Wig-wam, Hamburger Heaven, (before cholesterol I used to be able to actually eat real hamburgers and fries with that secret sauce), and my red VW convertible.

Spouse: Caroline Enderle Barber
Phone number:  (941) 722-6070
E-mail address:  richardbarber@wcicommunities.com
Present occupation:  General Manager of Real Estate Communities

Life and FamilyThe past 10 years have been interesting.  Within a month after our 30th reunion,  I went through a reasonably friendly divorce.  Interestingly, the reunion and the divorce were unrelated events!  Fortunately, within the year, I met and began dating a great lady (Caroline)  who I ultimately married.  We’ve now been married for over 4 years and life is great!

Through this past 10 years, two of my daughters have graduated from college and a third is now a college sophomore.  Amazing.  My fourth daughter will graduate from high school next year.  All in all, I’m a lucky man to be surrounded by such great women!

Next 10 Years
I am currently managing two large real estate developments in the Sarasota, Florida area.  One is winding down, and the other will last about six more years.  At that point, I will probably retire in the Sarasota area.  Caroline and I are seriously considering a second home in New Hampshire, where we continue to have many close friends.  (I spent 15 years of my life in the mountains of New Hampshire).   So summers in New Hampshire and winters in Sarasota;  not bad.

Favorite Memories: I loved playing football at U. City.  We were even a good football team during my junior year – at least for four games.  After that, we tanked!  Anyway, I loved the game, the game days and the camaraderie of playing with the team.  I even loved and appreciated our coach, the famous Stub Muhl.   When I tell people that my high school football coach played with Red Grange, there’s usually total disbelief.  Hey, they played college football in the early 1920’s!

Other great memories:  playing poker with buddies on non-date nights (and always losing!), dating my Jewish girlfriends (and their parent’s total disapproval!) and skinny dipping in the summer.  Let’s face it:  U. City was a very nice place to grow up.

Spouse: Bill Liccione
Phone Number: (314) 721-4060
E-mail Address: LLiccione@aol.com
Present Occupation: Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Business Co-owner

Life and Family: I'm so blessed to have a wonderful family that is my pride and joy and is the most important part of my life.  My husband of 25 years, Bill, has a small consulting firm specializing in compensation consulting of which I am an active participant.  It's been both challeging and liberating having our own business.  Bill is also an adjunct professor in the MBA programs at both Maryville University and Webster University.

I've been spending two full days every week with my three grandchildren ever since my first grandchild was born 7 years ago.  This has been a glorious and rewarding  experience as I'm sure those of you who have grandchildren know.  Of course, Bill and I spend even more time with them whenever we can.

My daughter, Ann Lesley (37) and her husband, Mike, live in Bloomington, IL.  Ann Lesley is a CPA and received her MBA at Washington University in St. Louis.  She is the Director of Finance and Administration for the United Way of McLean County in Illinois.  Mike is a Senior Portfolio Manager for Countrywide Insurance and Financial Services headquartered in Bloomington.  My son, Steven (35), and his wife, Leslie, live in Creve Coeur and are the parents of our beautiful grandchildren, Melissa (7), Ryan (4) and Dylan (2).  Steven is a CPA and received his MBA at Duke University.  He is the Senior Director of New Product Development at Express Scripts.  Leslie got her masters in physical therapy from Washington University and is a Certified Hand Therapist.  For now, though, she is a full-time wife and mom raising her young family, working occasionally filling in for people on vacation.  My stepson, Matthew (28), and his bride of 2 months, Jamarra, live in Columbia, MO.  Matthew receivd his BA in history at Mizzou and manages operations at a text book distributorship.  Jamarra is a private duty nurse, specializing in pediatrics.  Bill and I are so proud of all "six" of our children.

Next 10 Years:
I hope to stay healthy and be able to continue running, lifting weights, and Yoga.  Bill and I hope to continue our semi-annual trips to Santa Fe, NM - we love it there.  We expect there will be more grandchildren too, and that would be great!

Renee Bidnick (Summers)

Spouse:  Jerry Summers (U. City, '61)
Phone number:   (636) 532-3034
E-mail address:   rsummers8@charter.net
Present occupation:   Retired/part-time administrator for Outplacement Agency

Life and Family
I recently retired from a 25 year career at Anheuser-Busch where I worked in a variety of positions ranging from Telecommunications Analyst to Purchasing Agent.  In October of 2005, I took advantage of an early retirement opportunity.  I was so-o-o ready for eliminating the stress, the long drive, and the need to get up each day at 4:45 a.m.  I am now working part-time at an outplacement agency close to home and enjoying the changed, more relaxed lifestyle.  I have watched my 2 sons embark upon their careers.  Micah is 30 and is a computer consultant in St. Louis.  Jeremy is 28 and is an internal medicine resident in Richmond, VA. During these past 10 years, I met and married Jerry Summers, a fellow U. City graduate (class of '61), who grew up with my older sister and remembered me from my "tricycle days".  Though it was difficult to find time while working full-time and being a single parent, my main hobbies have been to exercise/stay in shape, and take piano and voice lessons.  I have sung in several local musical variety shows and enjoy that very much.

Next 10 Years:  Now that my kids are grown, and I am very happily married and working just part-time, I look forward to having more time to spend on the important things in life—family, friends, and smelling the roses.  I believe in taking one day at a time and making the most of it—filling each day with love, learning, and living.

Favorite MemoriesMy favorite memories are of the people and friendships.  The activities that stand out most in my mind are being in Dr. Procasky's chorus and shows, being a Camp White Cloud counselor, planning the GAA Big Sister/Little Sister picnics, going on the Washington DC trip and going to Wigwam each Friday night.

Jo Ann Bierman (Black)

Phone number:  (314) 576-4036

E-mail address:  jblackt@sbcglobal.net

Present occupation:  semi-retired teacher

Life and Family:  The last ten years have brought many changes in my life.  After 31 years of teaching in Parkway School District (primary grades and more recently as a reading specialist), I took "early retirement" two years ago.  I guess, however, I wasn't quite ready to retire.  Since then, I've continued to be employed by Parkway accepting long term substitute assignments for reading specialists.  Last year I job-shared a reading specialist position.  It was the best of both worlds doing what I loved but only part time!

I divorced 5 years ago after 26 years of marriage.  It's been quite an experience dating in the 21st century.  I'm enjoying my independence and have discovered new inner strengths.

My two greatest joys are my children.  Julia is 27 and is a strings teacher in Rockwood School District in St. Louis.  She married a wonderful man last year, and I'm thrilled that they have chosen to remain in St. Louis.  My son, Jordan, is 20 and starting his junior year in college.  Like his sister, he is also a music major.  He wants to either be a choral director or arrange and compose music.  He currently sings in 3 different university choirs and has started a men's a cappella group.  The best thing about having musical children is attending all their concerts.  My son recently sang in Prague, Budapest, and Vienna, and I spent two weeks traveling to those cities to hear him sing.

Next 10 Years:  I've been very blessed thus far.  My life with family, friends, and career, has been rich and rewarding.  I'd like to continue to teach reading part time or privately tutor.  Although I've traveled extensively, there are still many places in the world (and even in the U.S.) that I hope to visit.  I'd like to "smell the roses" more and enroll in some college or continuing ed. classes for fun. I'd also like to give back to the community by doing more volunteer work.  Of course I'm so envious of all my classmates who are already grandparents. I hope I have that opportunity when the time is right.  Finally, I'd like to eventually leave the dating scene behind and meet that "someone special" to share my life.

Favorite Memories:  It wasn't until I was much older and had children of my own that I fully realized how fortunate I was to have attended such an amazing high school.  I remember with fondness orchestra with Mr. Lang, playing in the musical "Sound of Music", the stimulating biology class with Mr. Jackoway, and Mrs. Gottlieb's challenging English class.  I relished all the football games when we cheered in the stadium wearing our black derbies with the yellow feathers and shaking our black and gold pom-poms.  I remember decorating the gym and turning it into a magical place before school dances.  Best of all I cherish the lasting friendships with classmates who are still my very special friends

Life and Family:  I have been able to remain in relatively good health.  I have spent the last 25 years in and around the automobile industry.  I travel 2-3 days a week around the country visiting Honda and Acura Dealers and working with them on Customer Service.  I've been fortunate enough to have been in the company of more than one woman who enjoys my company, as I do theirs.  All in all I have no complaints.

Ken A. Birenbaum

ken birenbaum

Spouse: Sandra Strauss
Phone Number: (314) 872-9969
E-mail Address: kbirenbaum@yahoo.com
Present Occupation: Family man

Life and Family:  I'm still blessed with a wonderful family - wife Sandy - children: Adam 28 (wife Gretchen), Michelle 26 (husband, Jason), and Rick almost 19, who still seem to love me despite my faults and bad jokes.  2 year old grand-daughter, Lily, brings smiles to all our hearts and our "due any day" grandson will add to that.  Sandy and I are very happy with the people our children have grown to become and I'm not sure we could ask for anything more than that.

I sold my business in 2002 and have been adjusting to a much different but happier lifestyle.

Around 1998 my childhood friend, Mike Brewen, learned he had ALS.  Mike was a wonderful tennis and basketball player, thin, athletic, full of life, and lots of fun.  He devoted his life to teaching and coaching basketball.  When Mike learned of his illness he approached this challenge with an athlete's discipline and the same positive attitude he applied to everything else he did.  I will be forever grateful that he included me as part of his support system during a time where he faced the toughest experience anyone could imagine.   ALS can best be compared to being buried alive.  It appears to be the exact opposite of Alzheimers, where you don't know what is happening yet your body is productive.  With ALS, however, you are mentally aware of everything until the end.  Whatever I could do for him was nothing compared to the lessons he taught me.  His spirit, strength, and dignity were a testament to the person he was, and model of inspiration to me and others.  I recommend "Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mich Albom if you have an interest in understanding some of emotions those close to Mike have experienced. Despite the subject matter, it's an emotionally uplifting book.  I guess sharing these thoughts of Mike makes this a dedication of sorts, and I'm happy to have that opportunity, hopefully without being morbid.  Mike would never have wanted that, and though he died on August 18, 2000, I continue to celebrate the life of my friend.

I've also spent the last couple of years reading lots of books on American history, the Revolution, and biographies of the Presidents.  It really puts our society's current challenges into better context for me, yet shows how little mankind has changed over the years.

Next 10 Years:   First, enjoying family and friends.  More reading, biking, and traveling.  Staying involved with Shaare Emeth and my community.  Staying connected with old friends.  Trying to do little things to make life worthwhile is how I want to spend the next 10 years.

Favorite Memories
Friends, silliness, and pride at having lived in the wonderful, yet challenging 60's in UCity.  Working in the library in 9th grade and having Kathy Dorn lean over the counter and touching her boobs to my arm.  I miss her.  Bonding with fellow ironing board salesmen after school, Indian Ball, AZA, Wig Wam (obviously), learning to drive and feeling independent.  Not being influenced all the crudeness around me (yeah, right).  JV Tennis, still aspiring to be on the Varsity, but finally realizing that loving the game was more important.  The walks to school in the morning and meeting up with other friends along the way.  Hutchens' Physics class.  Having fun with so many great people during study hall, while walking the hallways, or at sports events.  Playing Bullwinkle during lunch.  What a wonderful time to be alive!  And how did we ever survive?

Life and FamilyI married my high school sweetheart, Debbie Heinze (class of '65). We have 3 wonderful kids, 2 girls and a boy. They ages are 32,30, & 28. They're all college grads and I'm very proud of them. I have 4 grand-kids with the 5th one due this month. Unfortunately, after 20 years of marrage we divorced in 1988. I ran wild for several years, I guess because I married at the age of 21. I love county music and dance. I danced several days a week. I met a very nice young lady (Melody) several months after my devorce. We became friends and danced a lot. Unfortunatly for me she was married and I respected her situation. Her husband didn't like county music or dancing either. He didn't mind his wife dancing with me. Over the following years I had a few relatonships, but after 20 years of marrage, I wasn't looking for any commitments. Melody and I remained friends for a long time. Unknown to me at the time, she devorced in 1992. We began dating some, and after a bad divorce to her second husband the last thing she wanted was a relationship. It was kind of nice because we where both on the same page with that situation. Our friendship began to grow and so did our relationship. In August of 1996 we where married. I think that our long friendship made a big differance. We sure got to know each other very well before we decided to get married again. She is the center to my world and we're both very happy.I look forward to gorwing old with her.

Spouse:   Norma Ungs Buchwach

Phone number:  (913) 491-1110

E-mail address:  doc2708@aol.com

Present occupation:  facial plastic surgeon

Life and Family:  I have a life with very few complaints.  Not that it would be my nature to complain anyway.  My wife says I can see the good in everything.  By the way I have the same wife and the same two daughters.  Norm (she hates Norma) and I have been married 31 years.  She is the boss and I have never been confused about that nor have I ever tried to overthrow her regime.  Abby is 22 and just graduated from the University of Michigan.  She is applying to medical school.  Allison is 20 and is a junior at Michigan. She has only a few clues as to what she wants to do in the future.  Both girls have been great and really haven't caused us any anxiety...yet.

We live in the same house in Leawood a suburb of Kansas City.  My practice is entirely facial cosmetic surgery.  I work until 1:30 each day and then play golf or do clinical research.  I am the principal investigator for the new Botox that should be out in (oops, I can't say when, but tell your wrinkles help is on the way).

I continue to run and did the Chicago Marathon a few years ago.  My muscles spasms immediately afterward were significant enough that if anyone had yelled "hey pretzel man" I know who they meant.

Next 10 Years:  I plan to continue to work as long as it is enjoyable.  I hope my daughters find guys who don't have "love" or "hate" tattooed on their knuckles.  I also prefer that they don't get those tattoos as well.

Wishing for good health is pedestrian. I really am hoping for much more. Specifically a better golf game.  Good health is much easier to achieve than good golf.

Favorite Memories:  White Cloud and legitimately missing school both years.  Rinaldi's and Nino's.  The strip.  Joe Hale.  Miss Bowers (actually I went to her apartment near Union Station...not alone of course). Spouse: Steve Dienstfrey
Phone number: (703) 978-3899
E-mail address: dienst@cox.net
Present occupation: 8th grade civics teacher

Life and Family:  The past 10 years brought me more frequently to St. Louis, since my son and daughter both attended Washington University. My daughter now lives in New York, and my son, after a 2-year extension in St. Louis, will be moving back to the DC area this year. In 1996, after 22 years of teaching elementary school, I switched to teaching government/economics in a middle school. I wish I had done this 10 years earlier, since I feel teaching 13 & 14 year olds is definitely my "calling". 9/11 changed all our lives. Watching the events unfold on TV that morning with my students was their "Nov. 22nd" moment. (My guess, each of us remembers exactly where we were during our sophomore year at UCHS upon hearing the news.) This event helped me teach my students to distinguish between things that are important and those that are trivial.

Next 10 Years
:   During the next 10 years I see myself continuing to teach for a few more years (Why not? It keeps me young!), continuing to travel...more cruises, more trips to Europe & Canada, perhaps a trip to South America, continuing to enjoy my children and their future families. And, oh yes, I hope to achieve "satisfaction" in Nov. 2006 when (hopefully) the Democrats take back either the Senate or the House of Representatives!!!!

Favorite Memories
:  The major memories that stand out during our high school years were being involved in the "Pro" shows...the musicals as well as the winter concerts where alumni would join us on stage for the Hallelujah Chorus, working at Wigwam on Friday nights (my friends and students are amazed that we were able to bring in live bands each week...how did we ever afford it????), being involved in BBYO, and going to Gaslight Square. Would you believe, I still use the "notehand" skills that Mr. Rock taught me?

Most importantly, my family is extremely close.

Next 10 Years
:
My mother-in-law has Alzheimer's.  I plan to do everything in my power to help her feel loved and cared for in this last chapter of her life.  My husband, two sons and grandchildren astound me with their innate ability to delight and amuse me.  I plan to enjoy them to the fullest.  I have a passion to own an apartment in Israel and visit the Galapagos Islands and Venice, and become a topnotch computer guru (probably not in this lifetime).

Penny Curland (Levitt)

penny leavitt and friend

Spouse: Mark S. Levitt
Phone Number: (314) 469-5511
E-mail Address: pennylevitt@sbcglobal.net

Life and Family: The past 10 years have been quite the same as my last 39-1/2 years, except I lost both parents (1992 and 2000). I married a few times, but they didn't work and now I'm married to Mark S. Levitt (since 1987), who is an attorney and Municipal Judge and prosecutor. We have had no kids (my kids are my 2 lab puppies, 4 cats and fish).  My biological clock went too fast.  I've worked since 1968 as a legal secretary/administrative assistant.  I started my own business in 1989 and it went quite well until 9/11 and then things went downhill.  I then had to work for attorneys and it wasn't fun.  I was used to being self-employed and doing "my own thing".  Last summer I started a website, www.catlovers.us, and because it was a "niche" site, it hasn't done very well either. (Do I hear some negativity?)  On the positive side, I did reunite with Barbara Tennenbaum Steinman and she has been keeping me abreast of things going on in the world of U.City66. It's nice to talk to someone who remembers — Steak & Shake drivebys, Hamburger Heaven, streetcars, when a mouse was something you caught in a trap, when gas was $.19.9(!!!), etc.

Next 10 Years: I am currently a notary signing agent (just passed the test) and will be taking the Certified Notary Signing Agent exam and become fully accredited.  I want to start this business asap and hope that it works. It's called Levitt's Legal Assistance.   Remember this, any of you attorneys, mortgagors, lenders, etc.!  Oh yes, I want to win the lottery.(LOL)  And turn 30 again!

Favorite Memories: I don't know about you guys, but 40 years is way too long to remember any particulars except I was YOUNG, YOUNG, YOUNG! Although I did like Art and P.E....

Spouse Name: Sharon Gornek Cutter, U. City '65
Phone number: (205) 262-1716
E-mail address: cutterg@prodigy.net
Present occupation: Professor of Biostatistics UAB

Life and Family:  I am Professor of Biostatistics and Head of the Section on Research Methods and Clinical Trials at the UAB School of Public Health.  I am involved in a variety of different medical research studies, graduate education and run the coordinating centers for a number of multicenter clinical trials. A great deal of my most recent work is in Multiple Sclerosis and other neurological diseases.

I have been married for 36 years to another UCitian, Sharon Gornek from the class of '65, enabling me to have the experience of seeing a 40 year reunion as an interested bystander. I t's nice to see how age mellows some and how the treasures of our formative years survive. Sharon and I have 3 wonderful children and two grandchildren. My daughter Corey is an attorney in Atlanta; Sons Scott and Todd and their wives, Gisella and Ana, and daughters Liana and Maya, all live in Costa Rica, where they have tour and real estate businesses and welcomed visits now and then from (!) some U City Indians!

Next 10 Years
My goals in the next 10 years are to begin to slow down and take more time for the many things I enjoy outside of work – family, exercise, cooking!

Favorite Memories
: `My most memorable moments from U City are the times with friends.  Our education taught us many facts, but my lasting memories were learning that teachers were human and had lives as well. The wonderful talent amongst our classmates brought many laughs, admirations, perspectives and criminal intent, or was that pure fear? I'll never forget my 10th grade Algebra class, as it was a moment that brought the world into our classroom as the news of President Kennedy being shot was announced – television was never the same and the insulating bubble that surrounded us was burst.  A number of sporting events come to mind and related experiences (inappropriate still to mention), and I guess the fact that there are so many memories is a good thing!  We had a wonderful educational situation balanced in academics, art, music, exercise and good times.

Life and Family: Have been married 36 years and have 2 grown children, both living in St.Louis. David and I have been on an adventure the last 10 years...turning 50, he decided to change careers, becoming a college professor, which took us to Fargo, ND, Stillwater,O.K. (where he received his phd in marketing at Oklahoma State) and now Atlanta,GA, where he teaches in the  business school at Clayton State University.  When we were married he told me we would go to neat places, but never did I imagine I would leave St. Louis...I work presently in midtown Atlanta for a dentist, part time.

Next 10 Years:
David, having started his career late, would like to work forever.  I however, would like to retire soon, and have more time to travel and spend time with family and good friends I've had for over 40 years. Always love to have visitors in Atlanta!

Life and Family: Nancy and I have been married for 34 years.  We have 1 son, Barry, now 28, living in Clearwater Beach, Florida. He does not seem to be getting the message that we want grandchildren (now).
In addition to St.Louis, our careers have taken us to Kansas City, New York, Indianapolis, and back to Kansas City.  We hope to retire soon to Tucson.

Next 10 Years: Stay alive and healthy.  Downsize and simplify everday living.  Do charity and volunteer work in appreciation for the good luck and good fortune we have had all these years.

Favorite Memories:
Hamburger Heaven, meeting inside the cluster of evergreen bushes in the circle outside the front entrance of UCHS (to see who wanted to skip that day), being able to walk to school, everyone knowing everyone else.  We didn't know how good we had it.

Elinor Dennis (Jacobson)

Spouse:  Paul Jacobson

Phone number:  (414) 332-8848

E-mail address:  lej24@aol.com

Present occupation:  Volunteer Coordinator, Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra

Life and Family:  It has been a time of immense change.  In the last 10 years, both our children have gone to college, graduated, gone to graduate school, found jobs, moved away (one away from Milwaukee) and one has gotten married.  A lot of happy changes.  But also, in the last 10 years, both my mother and my sister have passed away.  And the loss of each left an empty place in my life which I know I will never fill.  What treasures family is, and how much we take it all for granted.  As I once heard on a radio ad, "Call your mama; I wish I could call mine."

Next 10 Years:  Now that our kids are (semi) launched, my husband Paul and I hope to do some living for ourselves in the next 10 years.  He will retire at some point from his job as a pension lawyer for a Milwaukee law firm, and I will give up my part time delightful job as an administrator for young musicians and their families at the Youth Symphony.  We are both lucky to be relatively healthy and enjoy many activities, so we will travel and continue to learn new skills and pursue new avenues.

Favorite Memories Don't know where to start. I remember having fun with Lynne Spiegelberg and making posters in her basement for all kinds of school activities.  I remember being in "The Music Man" and enjoying "The Boyfriend" and "The Sound of Music".  I remember remarkable teachers, Mrs. Gottleib, Miss Bowers and others.  And lots of faces from McKnight School on...can't wait to see you again!

Present Occupation: retired HS Bio teacher, currently tutor and educational consultant

Life and Family: Perry and I have successfully launched our son and daughter — both to Chicago. I retired 6-05 from 30 hrs. teaching HS Biology — loved my career and am now a science tutor and study skills consultant and enjoying planning my own schedule! My husband retired and began a 2nd career, so we are busy but fulfilled! Have recently moved my folks from St. Louis to Springfield, IL area and that occupies lots of my attention. I successfully fought breast cancer in 2002-03 and am doing very well at present. We are very close to our family, love traveling, and I love maintaining my UCity contacts, as well as my Indiana Univ. connections. Been married since 1970 — guess that is an accomplishment I am proud of, too! Our son Matt is getting married in May, 2007(graduated from U of Ill. and Duke MBA) and our daughter Stacy (Univ. of Arizona graduate) is in process of re-locating to Chicago and is actively job-hunting in banking, so both of our kids will be in same city
for the 1st time! I stay in close contact with Susie Susman Gitt and Ronnie Goldberg Brockman — St. Louis info is dear to my heart!
Next 10 Years: I want to expand my consulting/tutoring business, want to become a grandma!, hope to travel to Greece, Australia, back to Italy and S. of France! Look at every day as a gift and try to enjoy it to fullest!!

Sydney Diamond (Farber)

sydney diamond farber

E-mail address: Kitty1106@aol.com or sydney1106@gmail.com
Present occupation: Assistant to the Associate Director of Development at St. Vincent's Home for Children

Life and Family:  Actually I'm going to go back a lil' bit more than 10 years ago.... From 1972-1975, I lived in Israel, trying to make aliyah, but ended up back in St. Louis, MO with my (then) 8-1/2 month old daughter, Galia, and husband Shai, from whom I'm now divorced (since 1992).

Galia is now 31 and Naomi, her sister, born 3 years later, is 27. Just last year (summer of 2005), they both moved to L.A. (No. Hollywood) to chase Galia's dream job. She studied in London, England, getting her masters in Art Management, and would like to pursue that career by working at Disney Studios or Pixar, or something similar. Tho' I miss them both, I'm glad they're doing it together! Naomi is in the teaching field. Together with one dog and two cats, they're on their way!

In 1990, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and in May 2006 (Memorial Day weekend), I will be celebrating 16 years cancer free. I took part in the Race for the Cure in St. Louis (tho' I walked the 1 mile course w/daughter, Naomi) in 1999 and 2000. A fall in July 2000 (just a few weeks after the Race/Walk for the Cure), ended my participating in the Walks.  Nothing broke, but still it's not as easy to move around these days, even 5-1/2 years later.

In September 2002, I joined Shaare Zedek Synagogue, feeling a lack of something in my life. Little did I realize that a few years later, my daughters would be the lack that I had already started missing in my life. I jumped into activities, relearning my Hebrew from 30 years prior, and decided it was time to go through the real experience of being a Bat Mitzvah, and so had my official ceremony on August 21, 2004 - with SEVEN other women! Ours was the biggest (to date) bat mitzvah class, women who had never had theirs at age 12-13.  After reading my three (smile) lines of Torah, and then Haftarah, I decided I wanted to do more - after my bat mitzvah. I have since had two other haftaroat and hope to do another one sometime this year.

Being that Shaare Zedek is egalitarian, women count in a minyan and on the bimah, during Shabbat services. I can lead the afternoon Mincha service, as well as the evening Maariv service, plus am getting better (smile) at reciting the Birchat HaMazon (Blessing after Meals).

Up until 2002, I had 2 kitties in my life, but had to put down Maggie in 2001, due to complications from liver cancer, and the next year, when I had joined Shaare Zedek, I had to put Lyla down, also from a liver cancer. I had both since they were kittens (born from two separate litters but with Lyla being the oldest), Maggie having been 14 when she died and Lyla 16. I feel I'm due for another kitty now - it's almost 4 years w/o any meowing around here - tho' I must say I don't miss changing the litter box.

Next 10 Years:   In the next 10 years, I would like to be more proficient in my Hebrew, doing at least one, maybe two, haftarah a year.  I would also like to finish this book that I've been working on, get it published, and then start on a new one.  Of course, I would like to be on the BEST SELLER's LIST, too!! (smile)
And tho' this isn't really an achievement, at least not that I can do myself, I would love to be a grandmother!!!! LOL :)

Favorite Memories:  Some of my favorite memories include being in Mr. McKinney's chemistry class. He was NOT the typical teacher. He actually made learning (chemistry) fun.  I liked going to Washington, D.C. on my senior trip, tho' don't ask me too much about it, cuz the memory is a bit fuzzy there. (smile)I liked being a part of the Esperanto Club... it was fun being able to speak a language other than those required in school. Surprisingly, my French became so much better AFTER I finished high school, than while I was there (sigh).

I do remember (blush) watching the cute guys (whose names will be kept anonymous) who sat in front and behind me in English class. (smile) Unfortunately, I don't remember the teacher's name!! LOL

I liked being in Chorus and taking part in the musicals.  I even went on to being in the Chorus when I went to college (NE Mo State, which is now Temple).  To this day, I still take part in the musicals (Spiels during Purim) at Shaare Zedek.  I guess it's helping me get over my fear of being in front of an audience/crowd!

Sorry for rambling....

Life and Family:  Last 10 years have been spent in Phoenix working for Insight Enterprises selling computer hardware and software. Been selling one thing or another for my entire career (except a nice tour of Southeast Asia working for Uncle Sam) — see what happens when you don't know what to do with your life. I have 3 kids (Brandon-28 and a career Navy man, Katie-26 and an aspiring elementary teacher, and Kim-22 and a recent Ohio U grad.) I also became an avid motorcycle enthusiast (some would call me a biker now).

Next 10 Years:  Retire (like most others) and travel the US in a motor home, with retirement homes in Phoenix and Ohio (my adopted home).  Ride my Harley to the four corners of the US. I suppose what I would really like to do is re-discover my youth.

Favorite Memories
:
Can't believe no one has mentioned Fat Man's on Friday night before Wigwam and going to Ed's Pool Hall ("rack 'em Ed").  Great close friends (Cory B, Larry C, Carl P, Rich F) and the many other friends on all sides of the city from the Loop to Nelson Burton's, from Tropicana to Page Blvd.  Falling down drunk at Wigwam — what were we thinking?.  Riding in Jeff Schlesinger's car doing donuts on the Ladue football field after the game senior year, and getting caught!  Anyone else in that car?  Khoury League games — always losing to the big boys but holding my own.  Not liking the sauce at H, probably the only one in U. City — but finally coming over to loving it!  Having Cory as a personal bodyguard — there's still a guy from Chaminade walking around St. Louis with a bridge in his mouth.  Chasing the Ladue boys out of Steak & Shake.  It was all good!

My favorite memories are of summers at the Heman Park tennis courts and swimming pool. Weekend nights at Ed's White Front, Sam The Watermelon Man and cruising in unknown territory aboard Fred Miller's dad's Edsel. That car could pass everything but a gas station.

Life and Family: My success is my family. I have been married for over 35 years to Soozi who has been the love of my life. Our son, Brian, who has lived in Houston for the last 2 years, has a new job and has just moved back to Dallas. Soozi, Julie and I all work together as realtors in the Dallas area. I am a fortunate man that I work with my two favorite women in my life and that we still all get along. Present occupation: Atmospheric Chemist

Life and Family: I’ve been at the NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, since 1979 doing atmospheric chemistry research—specifically how to use satellites to measure air pollution.  In general, it’s been a fantastic job as I’ve had the freedom to pursue topics of my own choosing (as long as I can get NASA funding to support the work).  Whereas many of my ideas were out of the mainstream 20 years ago, they’ve generally been accepted and we are now trying to sell a satellite to the country that is dedicated to measuring air pollution from space (rather than use currently orbiting satellites that were originally designed to do other things).  The job has allowed me to travel a lot (probably too much!) as the global atmospheric chemistry business is inherently an international endeavor.

Sue and I have been married for 33 years and have been living in the city of Poquoson (formerly a fishing village), which has a small town feel (population 11,000) although it is part of the much larger Norfolk-Virginia Beach-Hampton-Williamsburg metropolitan area.  Our two sons, David (29) and Jason (26), both have Fragile X Syndrome, and we have constantly been crusaders for them through involvement on the local Special Education Advisory Committee and learning as much about Fragile X as possible.  Both boys live at home, are comfortable in their part-time jobs, and are both currently active in Special Olympics which is one of the activities that keeps the entire family on the go.  Parts of many days throughout the year are taken up by swimming, bowling or soccer, as well as fundraising activities.  I coach the swim team (although I can barely swim, I have volunteer assistant coaches who know what they’re doing) and I find it rewarding when the athletes feel good about themselves by getting ribbons or medals.  In addition, the athletes at this age (my swimmers range from 19 to 31) rarely have the opportunity to get much exercise, so they benefit physically from participating in these sports.

Our daughter, Melissa (24), graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington this past December, and is working as a recreational therapist at a residential hospital for adolescents with autistic and emotional disorders.  I think being a member of our somewhat atypical family has brought her a special gift for working with this population.  Sue is a reading specialist for 1st and 2nd graders at the Poquoson Primary School where she works with at-risk children. In 2005, we became foster parents for one of her students and it really opened our eyes as to how disadvantaged some children are because of their home environment.  We also now have first-hand information that has shown us the complicated character of the traditional “nature vs. nurture” argument.

Outside the family, Sue and I enjoy playing bridge and getting out whenever we can.  We belong to the Poquoson Yacht Club (even though we don’t own a boat!) and to the Colonial Shag Dancing Club.  I still play softball in a co-rec NASA league and enjoy pretending that I can still play the field like Dal Maxvill.  We’re still big Cardinal fans and try to see at least one game every year (the last two years we’ve traveled to Atlanta and Washington to see games).  My son Jason has never been to a losing game so I think the Cardinals should hire him as a professional fan!

Next 10 Years:  Having a degree in meteorology, I know that trying to forecast what life has in store for me ten years from now is a futile effort.  I’m sure that whatever happens will center around the two most important things in my life:  My family and my career.  Hopefully, before the next ten years are up, we will find a facility for our sons where they can maintain as independent a life style as possible and continued happiness.  This may mean moving from the area and possibly relocating to a place where there is some extended family.  Then again, our children have been raised in Virginia and they’re comfortable here.  The other unknown right now is the future of NASA.  Unfortunately, the current Administration has said that “we will go back to the moon and then onto Mars” (I think George Bush’s space policy was inspired by watching Buzz Lightyear in “Toy Story” too many times). At the same time, there’s no extra money in the budget to pay for these ambitious not-very-well-thought-out plans, so funding for science (especially Earth science) is being painfully squeezed and morale in my part of NASA is lower than it has ever been.  I still have a dream of launching the first satellite that will give us daily maps of pollution—I guess that stems back to our passionate days in the 60s and 70s where there was a national movement to care for the environment.  Although life is generally good, Sue and I keep thinking that we need to slow down and enjoy the good things we have.  We have a list of “things we want to see before we die” and we have seen some of them (the Grand Canyon, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, SeaWorld in San Diego, the craziness of Las Vegas, the beauty of Hawaii), but I would like to take back her to a couple of places that I’ve been by myself--in particular, London, Santorini and Namibia.  But the most important thing that I hope I see in the next 10 years is continued good health and happiness for our family and friends.

Favorite Memories
:  Camping out all night with Gary Schechter to get tickets for the first World Series game in 1964 and then being pushed out of line after sunrise and not getting our bleacher seats.  Sitting on the bench with Bert Schweizer on the varsity baseball team and having Mr. Buffa’s son bring us cookies since he knew we weren’t going to play.  Wigwam—and meeting Susan and Karen Kisslinger’s father who brought a decibel meter to measure how loud the band was.  The influence of Mr. Hale’s teaching on my life.  The “Drivo-Trainers” in Mr. Vick’s driver’s ed. class and the constant amazement of wondering whether or not he had a neck.  Being a cheerleader at the Powder Puff football game.  Susan Losse as Maria in the “Sound of Music” and Mark Minkes as “The Music Man.”  Sledding on the big hills (2nd and 3rd holes) at the Ruth Park Golf Course after a big snowstorm.  The muted chuckling of the classroom when substitute teachers tried to pronounce Kenny Buchwach’s or Mimi Fiszel’s last names.  The all-day basketball games at Skippy Spielberg’s tennis court.  THE Monopoly Game at Max Reif’s house and being on TV for the first time (at least my back was—and I rolled
a 12!).

Present Occupation: Just "retired"

Life and Family: Wow! so much has happened both good and bad I don't know just where to begin. Funny thing is I was cleaning out a box of old papers and I ran across a copy of what I had written for our 30th reunion. Life goes on whether we like it or not with it's ups and downs so I guess I'll get the bad out of the way first. Just as I was diagnosed with cervical cancer about 2 years after our 20th reunion I was diagnosed with lung cancer 2 years after our 30th reunion. Ten months later my sweet, beautiful mom passed away 2 days after openheart surgery and only twelve weeks later my kind and funny dad died of lung cancer. That year was probably the toughest and sadest year of my life. I still mourn for my parents who survived the horrors of the holocaust but at the same time I am so proud of all they accomplished in their lives. Now for the good news. I am a two time cancer SURVIVOR and that's what counts.
I can't wait to see all of your wonderful faces. All of you will look beautiful to me. I've lived in Chicago so long, more than 36 years to be exact, but still will always consider St. Louis home. One thing I did 29 years ago (a year after our 10 year reunion) while I was still teaching school and looking for a condo for myself was happen to buy a 6 flat in Lincoln Park. Who knew? After being a property manager as well as raising my son as a single mom for all those years I finally sold my property on June 1st. 2006 and I am proud to say I did it all myself as a single woman, now as a "retired" single woman. My son Aaron 25 is finally graduating college this December after taking time off several times during his college experience. After starting at Wisconsin then moving to Illinois he is finally finishing at where else but UMKC. I'm so thrilled that this kid who got a 1490 on his SATs and a 32 on his ACTs is making his mother proud. That's another good thing.

Next 10 Years:
Now that I am starting the next phase of my life I plan to start spending all the money I worked so hard for the last 30 years. I hope to move back to St. Louis (I still own my parent's home in Chesterfield). I'd like to get active volunteering at the Holocaust Memorial Museum and possibly looking into trying to get a Gilda's Club (A cancer support community named for Gilda Radner) started in St. Louis. The club in Chicago helped me through tough times during my bout with lung cancer and I still participate there often. I hope to do some traveling and maybe even finding a nice guy to travel with. Who knows?

Favorite Memories:
I loved so much about U.City. I brag to anyone who will listen about how special it was growing up there. I loved cruising the "Strip" with the "guys". Renaldi's pizza and special salad, Steak n Shake, Hamburger Heaven, Cyrano's after that special date, the "Showboat" what fun those melodramas were, I loved dancing the night away at Wigwam, I loved Science with Mr. Jackoway, Music with Dr.Pro, being a flagbearer and marching with the school band, being Ma Pennypacker to Dr. Mark Minkus's Pa Pennypacker, and too much more to mention but most of all I remember the kind of friendships we made, ones that would last a lifetime.

Life and Family: Stan and I celebrated our 37th anniversary this year and after all this time, he is remains my special sweetheart.  Our two sons, while raised in California, decided to head to the midwest for college.  Andy, now 33, graduated from Mizzou, and Bryan who is 30 finished his education at the University of Wisconsin.  Happily for their mother, they each returned to the west coast.  Andy is married; he is a Deputy Attorney General for the State of
California, and he and his wife Jennie (also from St. Louis) have delighted us with our grandson Jacob (19 mos).  Bryan is a seasonal ranger at Yosemite National Park. During the rest of the year he travels and teaches me to take and appreciate each day as it comes.

A few years ago, we decided to downsize and sold our family home.  We bought a condo at the beach.  It is much smaller, but the view is perfect.  It is like being on a perpetual vacation, except for the fact that Stan still has to work...which brings me to my next major change.  After working as a staff attorney for our state trial court for twenty years, I retired last summer.  While I really loved my job, I honestly cannot say I miss it.

Next 10 Years: Next ten years:  To stay strong and healthy, to continue learning and traveling, to reconcile my love of good food with my new metabolism, and to grow old gracefully by staying focused on what is really important.

Favorite Memories:
U City Memories: It was soooo much better than junior high school!   Camp White Cloud, the magical transformation of the gym for school dances, the school spirit at the games, spending time with my boyfriend, his friends, and my girlfriends, ¦and that feeling that the world revolved around us.
I particularly remember with gratitude Miss Bowers who made me cry (privately)over my 36 class average, but who also taught me to write.

Spouse:  Roberta Wainer Fleishman

E-mail address:  Mefleishman@cox.net

Present occupation:  Senior Cost Engineer

Life and Family:  The most important milestone of the past 10 years was celebrating my 34th Wedding Anniversary with my wife Roberta.  The highlight of the last 10 years was the graduation of our daughter Sara and our son Matt from college.  Sara received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Arizona and then received her Masters in Occupational Therapy from USC.  Matt graduated with a BS in Business Administration from USC after spending 4 years playing Tuba in the USC marching band.  Needless to say we saw a lot of football games.  Sara is now working in Phoenix at a school for handicapped children and Matt is in the IT department for a Biotech company in San Clemente, California.

I am still working for Southern California Edison as a Senior Cost Engineer at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station.  I have also been active with the AACE (Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering), a professional society, which elected me to the grade of Fellow in 2005.  I am currently serving as the Association's Certification Chairman.  Even though my Eagle Scout is now 27, I remain in the Scouting Program as an Adult Scouter.  I spent two years as the Scoutmaster, and I remain an Assistant Scoutmaster of the Troop that I helped form at our Congregation.  I have also been an Advisor in the Order of the Arrow, the Scout Camping Honor Society, at both the Local and Council levels, and I recently returned from East Lansing Michigan where I attended the National Order of the Arrow Conference with 8,000 of my fellow Scouts and Scouters.  I was honored by the Saddleback District with the District Award of Merit, and by the Orange County Council with the Silver Beaver award.  The latter is the highest award that a volunteer can receive from his Council.

For fun, I am an active Model Railroader with a layout in my garage, we don't have basements in California, and I still read a lot of history books.  I also like to fish when I get a chance. Over the last couple of years we have traveled to London and Paris with the Cost Engineers and have been to Williamsburg and Gettysburg and Colorado.  In Colorado we rode the Narrow gauge railroads the Cumbres and the Toltec and the Durango Silverton.

Next 10 Years:  My number 1 goal is to retire.  There are a lot of things that I would like to do and work gets in the way. Then of course I would like to do some more traveling and maybe take a few history classes that I was never able to take in Engineering School.

Favorite Memories:  I remember the friends that I spent almost every weekend with, Jeff Hupert, Neil Portnoff, Ron Miller, Jerry Wasserstein, George Gruber, and others.  I still keep in touch with many of them.  While I did occasionally attend WigWam, mostly we went to movies, played sports, ate at Parkmoors and Stake and Shake and just had an all round good time being with each other.  I remember spending a lot of time down at the South end of the gateway arch as it was just being built.  I remember the guys on the wrestling Team, Rich Fitzgerald, Brad Zemel, Marc Goldberg, Felix Panlasiqui and others not in our class. I remember Mark and Marlon Henley the drafting teachers that got me interested in becoming an engineer.  I can remember the day President Kennedy was killed and I can see the cafeteria as it was and I remember sitting in the drafting room listing to the news over the loudspeaker.  Who could forget Chemistry with Joe Hale.  We had a good life.

Present occupation:  CEO RIC-Tronics, Inc. ( www.ric-tronics.com) and TagAlarm (www.tagalarm.com).

Life and Family:  I am the owner of RIC-Tronics, Inc. a distributor and importer of electronic components, (those little things on printed circuit boards).  I have been running the company since the untimely death of my husband nearly 11 years ago.  We celebrated our 25th year in business in May with a company trip to Cancun. My job requires me to wear many hats, necessitating learning about inventory control, purchasing, sales, collection, administration, HR, P&L, insurance and the correct way to on & off load a truck.  I wish I had studied business instead of getting my degree in Spanish.  However, my Spanish does come in handy in dealing with our Mexican customers.  I studied Mandarin for three years, but have never been able to communicate well with the Chinese.  My job does allow me to travel frequently to Europe, Asia, and throughout the U.S.

After losing my wallet to a pickpocket in Prague, I invented the TagAlarm "the Burglar Alarm for your Bags."  I've sold thousands on my website (www.tagalarm.com) and presented the TagAlarm on QVC last year.  I received my patent in June and have just taken a large order from a company in India.  TagAlarm will be in catalogs this fall.  My invention introduced me to the new world of manufacturing, merchandising, package design, and web promotion.

I am a member of the Creve Coeur Parks & Recreation Committee which has been instrumental in establishing a Dog Park for our community.  I have been approached to run for public office at the local level, but have not made a decision at this time.

I have one daughter, Tracey(25) who, after graduating from Arizona State, decided that she was finished with cold weather.  She lives in Phoenix and works for the city of Scottsdale.  She is also a Yoga instructor for Scottsdale Junior College.  I visit her frequently, but somehow always manage to be there during the "dry heat" of the summer months.

Next 10 Years:  My plans for the next 10 years include visiting Israel, a trip I've put off for far too long.  I'll retire when my job is no longer fun or challenging.  I hope to constantly travel a circuit between St. Louis, St. Petersburg, Florida, & Scottsdale.  Golf lessons must also be in my future.

Favorite Memories:  I am quite saddened to think that in l966, we left our secure U.City cocoon to enter an outside world at war.  And now, 40 years later, as we contemplate retirement, our world is at war again.  Some things never change.

I remember that we(girls) were not allowed to wear slacks or jeans to school.  We had to put our dresses or skirts on in the restroom before class.  Some things do change!!

I think many of us did not realize or appreciate how fortunate we were to be a part of such a unique community where we received a superb free education and a high moral upbringing.  I'm sure we all realize it now.

Favorite Memories:
The night Arnie took out his new old 56 pink chevy with Saks, me and perhaps one other forgetable accomplice.  We drove to Groby road to learn the art of peeling rubber.  Saks had his hand on the gear shift- told Arnie to accelerate to the floor in neutral.  Saks then proceeded to shift from neutral to drive.  We went nowhere but the transmission did drop out of the car.  What ever happened to that car?

Hanford, Arnie , me and various and sundry others came out sunday night after a nice wet snow wtorm. We built a 6 foot snow  phallus - very artfully and realistically created actually- and it stood there proud on the front lawn of the school.  We impatiently awaited the morning - but to our chagrin - the janitorial staff surgically removed it.  We were really idiots .

Another night that I'll never forget was our second outing with beer.  The week before - our first outing at Jackson Park- Arnie threw up his 12 pack of Miller.  This week Arnie decided to restrain himself - and offered his 6 pack to me.  After a night of watching Lang down hamburger heaven burgers and stumbling home - with my father on the front lawn and my face hanging over the curb- well let's just say I was sick all night.  The next day at school, Max used the intercom to request that D. H. Friedman please come to the office.

Joe Buchwald Gelles

joe and mia

Life took a huge unexpected twist for us shortly after the 30th reunion, when we found that our son Noam (then not yet one) was autistic. Since then we've done a lot of learning, and a lot of working, and he's done pretty well -- but it does kinda take over your life.

My wife Mia now co-directs a nonprofit called Milestones.org which helps both parents and professional deal with kids "on the spectrum." She met her co-founder in the waiting room of the speech therapist. They do an annual conference, and now train classroom teachers as well. This is entirely volunteer; she's kept her part-time gig at Environmental Health Watch.

I took a while to land on my feet after leaving the printing coop that I started in 1976 and worked in until 1992. Today I continue to do graphic design, but also distribute Jewish books, including the best haggadah in print, A Different Night by Noam Zion, and the Nevarech bencher. If you're interested, I'm on the web at haggadahsrus.com. I designed a lot of the books there, and I'm right proud of it. The work was something I stumbled into -- Noam was an old friend, couldn't get his haggadah published, needed a distributor. I've learned on the job. The book has been wildly successful, selling over 160,000 copies. Not bad for self-published. More recently, he wrote and I designed A Day Apart: Shabbat at Home.

Ruth, now 22, just graduated magna cum laude from George Washington University (the one in DC, not St. Louis). She seemed headed to law school, but a first job at a law firm as a legal secretary has given her serious doubts -- even though she makes more than either Mia or me!

One interesting thing about Ruth was how similar her high school experience was to mine -- much to my surprise! OK: we live in an inner-ring suburb, much like UCity. But she started high school in 1998, and her school was 75% African American, and we all know high school today is sex, drugs, and things much weirder than rock'n'roll. But -- nada. She hung out with a pretty bright crowd that seemed not to do any of the above. College, full of booze, was a problem for her, since she wasn't prepared for that. But she made it through, and is very cool.

Noam, now almost 11, is our "on-the-spectrum" kid. He's a delightful sweetie, very social with adults, pretty clueless with peers. (Hey, I was also pretty clueless with peers -- this stuff is genetic, they say.) (And they should know.) He struggles with a lot of stuff, is a slow processor also, and his sports abilities make me look like an Olympian by contrast. Every year we can't imagine how he's going to get through another year of "mainstream" school -- homework is a daily ordeal from when he gets home until about 10:00; sometimes it feels like we're home schooling him in addition to his regular Jewish day school. But somehow we do what it takes, and he loves school in spite of how hard it is for him. (He just doesn't love lunch and recess, unstructured social times.)

Shani, now 9, is the little sister who dragged Noam into socialization -- she wouldn't take no for an answer. Today she's entirely into girl stuff (go figure -- Ruth never wore a dress until senior prom) and mostly fights with her brother; but hey, "normal" feels good. She's bright, makes us crazy, but has a capacity to enjoy something so totally that her pleasure radiates to everyone.

I've struggled with some health issues, but on the whole things are pretty good. Mia and I have been married for 13 years and it seems to always get better, in spite of all our struggles with raising Noam. By the way, I now go by Joe Buchwald Gelles (Mia's name in the middle). Hope I make it to the 50th, and that nobody whose name rhymes with "tush" is president by that time. And if Miss Patterson should happen to be there at the 40th, I do hope somebody sings "Gaudeamus Igitur" with her!

Present occupation:  Commander, Nurse Corps, U.S. Navy  Retired

Life and Family:  retired Feb. 2005 after 27 years in the Navy Nurse Corps. This is my first contact with everyone, so I will go beyond the last 10 years.  My husband and I have been married 35 years. We have two daughters, Libby, 30, a PharmD living in San Antonio with her husband of one year, Alex, and Mary, 21, a graduate student at University of Maryland, Baltimore County. We have lived several places state side, as well as 2 years in Guam and 3 years in Okinawa, Japan.  My husband is also a Registered Nurse, but in the civilian world.  He followed me all around the world, and worked on the economy wherever we went.  David and I have been in San Antonio 3 months.  We decided to move to be closer to my older daughter since I no longer have to move where I am told.  We will also be around whenever Libby and Alex decide to have a baby.  My 90 year old mother came to live with us as soon as I retired, so I am still working in the nursing field even though it is not outside  the home!

During high school I thought I wanted to major in flute in college but decided upon nursing instead.  I have been able to keep playing, though, these past 10 years, through community bands and orchestras.  I have played in San Diego, Jacksonville, FL, Jacksonville, NC, Honolulu, Hi, Okinawa, Gaithersburg, MD, and now San Antonio.

My daughter, Libby, had the Navy pay for her last 2 years of Pharmacy school and did her 3 year payback at National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD, where I was stationed at the time.  This was very unusual to have a mother daughter officer team together at the same place.  There are very few of these teams in the Navy, and it is rare to have them stationed together.  Many of my colleagues went to the pharmacy just to check her out.  Libby was one of 3 Pharmacists to be stationed on the Hospital ship, USNS Comfort, when the Iraqi war first started, and she was only 3 miles from shore, watching scuds fly over her head and mines following the ship.  I stayed back in the role of the worrying mother.

My younger daughter, Mary, is quite an accomplished soccer player, so attended UMBC as an undergraduate on a soccer scholarship.  UMBC is a division I school so she has had many interesting experiences with NCAA.  She red shirted her first year because of a knee injury the end of high school so is actually playing her final season this fall semester of graduate school.  She graduated Phi Beta Kappa in May, one of only 2 athletes out of the 120 inductees.

Time has flown by, and it is hard to believe that I had a 27 year career in the Navy (actually 34 years when I include my inactive ready reserve time), that we graduated from high school 40 years ago, that I graduated from nursing school 36 years ago, and that we are closer to 60 than 50!

Next 10 Years:  I would like to be able to attend the next reunion since I will be unable to attend this one and have not been able to attend any since we graduated.  I have also taken up golf, so would like to master that and still stay healthy enough to play when we are closer to 70 than 60!

Favorite Memories:  Playing varsity sports; playing my flute in marching band, concert band, and orchestra; traveling to Chicago with the band for competition; being a counselor at Camp White Cloud.

Life and FamilyThese have been the happiest ten years of my life.  I've been married almost twelve years and have been in my job almost nine years.  Because Gene and I married so late in life we never had children, so my twin nephews from my younger sister are the lights of my life.  I feel like I've accomplished much for the Home Builders Association with the programming and other events I've done for them and believe they see my contributions as very worthwhile also.

Next 10 YearsRetirement, lots of travel and getting to see my nephews more.

Favorite Memories:  Sadly, I don't have many memories of my years at U. City, which is why I've never attended any of the past reunions.  I'm hoping my classmates can help me to remember the good times (and even the not so good times).

Phone Number: (770) 456-9265
E-mail Address: Carole@pictru.com
Present Occupation: Photographer and pre-K teacher

Life and Family:  The last 10 years have certainly been filled with change.  Bill and I are now Grandparents to Lauren, age 4 and Alex, age 19 months, thanks to our oldest daughter Rebecca  and her hubby, Scott.  Our youngest daughter, Liz, lives in Dallas Texas and works for SW Airlines, a perk being that parents get to fly free!  Gotta love a kid who takes such good care of her parents. When Bill and I first married 36 years ago,  I told him that I never wanted to grow old where winters were cold.  So one day, after looking in the mirror, I decided the time had come to high-tail it out of Missouri.  I opened an Atlas and the page I turned to was Georgia. Sounded warmer than Missouri! I then closed my eyes, turned the map in all directions and pointed to a city and the upside is that we now live in Villa Rica, Georgia.  We like to say we're 26 miles from Alabama rather than admit that we're 34 miles from Atlanta. Anyone who has ever had to fight Atlanta traffic will (!) understand why we don't admit to being from Atlanta.  When Bill heard that I wanted to move, he said it would be impossible to find a new job quickly.  So, really hating the cold,  I put his resume on line and within 2 hours he had a call to come interview.  As they say, the rest is history and we've been "southerners" for 6 years.

In Missouri I was a wedding and portrait photographer for 25 years,  but having had trouble getting my business started here in the South, I took a job teaching Pre-K.  After one year of teaching 4 year olds, there is a heightened incentive to try and get my photography business going again.  Bill and I both enjoy the outdoors and especially enjoy shooting, both with cameras and guns.  I'm also getting intrigued with geocaching.

Next 10 Years
:  I'd love to think Bill and I can retire in good health, share time with our kids and grandkids, and grow old where it's not all that cold.

Favorite Memories
:  Rinaldi's, Spanish with Ms. Kinman

Life and Family:  Life is good. I'm happily married for 36 years, and have 2 children, and 4 granddaughters (two granddaughters live nearby).  My private practice as a psychoanalyst remains an enjoyable and active part of my life.  As Chair of Education at the St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute, I supervise therapists & analysts, teach, write and present papers.  Like many of you we travel extensively and recently to our second home in Montana, where we hike, ski, horseback ride, enjoy the weather and low key life style.  I still attempt to find time to pursue some hobbies and interests such as reading gardening, exercising, movies, and good wine shared with good friends and family.

Next 10 Years I expect the next ten years to mirror the present only in a different ratio.  My colleagues maintain a private practice until they are 80!  While at some point I'll cut back my patient hours I am certain I will stay involved in a career I enjoy.

Favorite Memories The richest memories are by far experiences with friends.  I cherish the opportunities to have enjoyed a wide range of friendships through the variety of activities U. Present occupation:  looking for a new job

Life and Family Over the years my life has taken many twists and turns.  I went to college to be a teacher but shortly after my classroom experience I found I would much rather have children than teach them.  I married, divorced, and raised two wonderful daughters, Sara and Marla.  Both are elementary school teachers and love it.  I am a grandmother to three:  Melissa (15), Gracie (4), and Tyler (2).

I have dabbled in several career opportunities over the years.  However, positions in fund raising have held the most interest to me thus far.  For the past 3 years I have worked for The College of Optometrists in Vision Development, which recently ended when they moved lock, stock, and computer to Ohio.  So, now I am between jobs and open to tackle a new position.

I also have one of the only negative income jobs when you're a grandmother; I work part-time at The Disney Store.

Next 10 Years:  I hope to be healthy, able to retire, and spend more time with my grandchildren.  I would also like to do some traveling.  And, perhaps have a companion/husband at my side to enjoy these things with me.

Favorite Memories:  folk dancing, walking to elementary school with Ms. Kerr and Phyllis Elkins (thanks for waiting for me), Wig Wam, playing in the jug band with Mike Cruvant, Bob Abrams, David Lazarous and Jim Sczepanski, senior skip day, and my many friendships especially Ruthie Franzel.

Present Occupation: retired

Life and Family: Got divorced 1996.  Retired from career as floor trader on American Stock Exchange 2001.  Still trying to figure out what to do when I grow up.

Steve adds: Got my engineering degree and worked as a programmer and hardware designer in and around Boston until 1980. Moved to Los Angeles, got an MBA, managed a couple of sales forces. Hated it with a passion. Packed up everything in 1989 to come to New York. Cashed in my life savings, got a seat on the American Stock Exchange, and started trading options for my own account. Options trading is kind of a glorified form of bookmaking. The risks and rewards are both *huge*, especially when you're doing it with your own money, as I was. If you saw "Trading Places" with Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy, that's a vaguely accurate presentation. I loved trading, but it's not something I wanted to do forever. Was planning to leave in late 2001. Nine of my fellow Amex members were killed on 9/11 when they went up to Windows on the World at the top of the Trade Center for breakfast that day. The Amex is two short blocks south of where the Trade Center was. I used to walk through the Trade Center every day to get from the train station to the Amex. For quite a while I couldn't bring myself to go back down there. Out of town guests would ask, "Can you take us down to Ground Zero?" and I'd tell them, no thanks, but they could go on their own. Nowadays, thankfully, I can go down there without trauma.

In response to a question: The "Ace" handle from high school days was self-selected. One time we had to fill out our names, addresses, and phone numbers for some student directory or another. Just for fun, I put down "Ace" for my first name. For some reason it stuck. The "Ace" in my email handle is entirely coincidence. Wall Street street traders have an institutional identity. At the Amex, the first part of your identity is the acronym for your clearing firm (the company whose financial clout backs up your trades in emergencies). I cleared through Bear, Stearns, whose chairman at the time was Alan C. "Ace" Greenberg. So that part of my institutional name was ACE. And my membership badge number was 1242. So whenever I did a trade, I'd tell the other trader, "I'm ACE 1242." It seemed natural to use that as an email handle as well. Nowadays I "work" part time as a house player at a private bridge club on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. When three members need a fourth player, I fill in. In one of life's funny coincidences, Ace Greenberg is a member of this club. I've played with and against him frequently. I don't play in serious bridge tournaments much any more, but I did have a good result in the national mixed (think: coed) pairs in Phoenix in 1995.

I'm planning on being there 9/8-9/10. It will my first time in St. Louis since 1970.

Spouse: Kitty Tolliver
Phone Number: (314) 725.7271
E-mail Address: grossh@grossmechanical.com
Present Occupation: Mechanical Engineer/President Gross Mechanical Contractors

Life and Family:  Married to the same woman, Kitty, for 30 years, and lived in the same house for 27 years.  Kitty, who lived in Quito Ecuador before we married, has a sister, Lulu, who lived in Tel Aviv, Israel and now lives in Malmo, Sweden with Kitty’s mother.  Attending life cycle events with Kitty’s family has always been one of our top priorities and has proven to be a source of some interesting situations.   Last time we were in Sweden for our nephew’s bar mitzvah, we attended a marriage anniversary party where you could not sit and have dinner or dance with your wife.  We also visited Stockholm where we saw the Marriage of Figaro, sung in Italian with Swedish subtitles.

Kitty and I became empty nesters, save our two dogs, Sophie a Bolognaise, and Tillie a Bouvier des Flandres, last year.   Three of our four sons have graduated from college.  Brad our eldest is a financial planner, Geoff and Matt work with me; and Michael is in his second year of a 6 year MD program at UMKC.  Brad married Debbie, daughter of Howard and Phyllis Klayman Loiterstein, UC class of 67; and Geoff married Stephanie daughter of Alan and Alice Klass Ludmer.  Stephanie gave birth to our first grandchild, Norah Abigail, in December 05.  Dad died at the age of 88 in 2003; and mom continues to live in the same house in UC across the street from Ruth Park.

Professionally, my firm built a 560 Megawatt $250,000,000 Combined Cycle Power Plant in 2002 and won a national award for our Project Management System in 2005.  In 2000 I became an adjunct professor of mechanical engineering at Washington University where I teach a 3 hour graduate level course “Engineering Project Management”.  I also serve on boards and teach, at the local and national level, for the Mechanical Contractors Association of America..

Communally, I serve on the executive committees of the Jewish Federation of St. Louis and BSKI Synagogue.

Next 10 YearsI began cutting back at work about three years ago.  Geoff thinks I am part time at best.  I am at my desk by 10 am; have lunch from 11:30 – 1:00; and return home for dinner at about 6:30 pm.  Weekends are usually free for family, golf, and communal pursuits.  With the communication explosion of the last 25 years, staying in contact with the office while traveling, has been made much easier.  This past year we traveled for about 6 weeks.

In the next 10 years as we continue to implement the succession plan at work, Kitty and I hope to travel and spend more time with our grandkid(s)? Teaching at Washington University and devoting more time to community activities is also part of the exit strategy.

Favorite Memories:  Teachers:  the best I had until I attended classes and retreats funded by Leslie Wexner who assembled an internationally reknowned faculty for his programs. Our teachers at UC nurtured and facilitated our development both intellectually and emotionally.

Friends and classmates who provided us with a lifetime of memories.

Coach Muhl’s inspirational rant after Ralph Hart and I lost the first set 6-1 to KC PemDay in the doubles semifinal at the state tennis tournament; we came back to win that match but lost the final to the Marty Rosenfeld-Tom Bearman team from Clayton.

The look on Stubbie’s face, upon returning to St. Louis, after the state high school tennis tournament, when he rang the bell to our house to show my parents the trophy, and saw my mother wearing my team captain letter sweater.

Life Family:  I continue to work at an environmental consulting firm writing environmental impact statements and directing the cultural resources (archaeology & history) program.  My daughter (now 32) was married several years ago to a wonderful man.  They live in Eugene, Oregon.  I am still hoping my son (now 30) will grow up and marry his girlfriend.  He keeps coming back home.  Life is good!

Next 10 Years: I would like to see my kids make me a grandmother!  International travel back to England and Paris and new trips to Ireland and Scotland are being planned.  Early retirement and spending my days doing volunteer work would be nice, but who can afford it?

Favorite Memories: I have to say milling about in the front hall before school, rehearsals for Pro's musical shows, and (of course) Wig-Wam on Friday nights.  That's just school.  Sneaking around at night in elementary school playgrounds, sledding on golf courses, crashing on skateboards, swimming at Heman Park pool, and very early morning runs to a bakery in the Loop were extracurricular activities.

Present Occupation: Attorney

Life and Family: One day  sophomore year, I was walking through the coach’s office after track practice, when the venerable  Henry Schemmer came up to me, stood 3 inches away, and shouted, “Handsher, are you any good?”  What does that mean? I thought.  Good?  Of course, the answer to his narrow question about my athletic abilities, would have been “No” due to an abundant lack of talent.  Instead, I just shrugged and walked on.

Well, coach — yeah I’m good — pretty, pretty good.  I’ve been living in San Francisco, married for 31 years, with two children (son about to start work for a social research firm in New York and daughter finishing her sophomore year in college in Massachusetts.)  Both my wife and I are attorneys.  She does criminal law and I represent employees and unions (mostly involved with the federal government).  And coach, I still run almost everyday, even slower than I did then.

Next 10 Years: Like just about everyone have more time to do things neglected because of work —read, write, hike, travel. See a poem I wrote:  Reunion66 (Life is The Loop) .

Favorite_Memories:
Most of what I remember has to do with getting away with things: the monopoly marathon at Max’s (great excuse to stay up all night), figuring out ways of not getting called on in Latin class, (hic haec hoc and all that jazz), skipping class senior year, the vaguely obscene parades in the front hall we organized during student government elections, hanging out with Irl and Wagman listening to Irl’s father, Alvin Extein, pontificate while prone on the living room couch, putting out the April Fool’s edition of the Tom-Tom (“VD at Camp White Cloud”), riding around in the schtuckmobile desperately seeking female companionship, staring out the window seduced by Mrs. Gottlieb’s dream world, watching classmates act out “To be or not to be” in Ms. Rothschild’s English class, Joe Hale demonstrating how electrons bang into each other, driving backward into the exit of the drive-in movie, watching Fishman imitate his bird eating, listening to Rubin make up ! dirty lyrics to songs on the spot, the great stall tactic in basketball against Ladue (final score 6-4), driving East with Earl Fendelman and Max Reif to look at colleges, with Mr.  Fendelman’s pensive suggestion: “It’s time to discuss dinner and consider going to the bathroom,” and a few years later Bob Mellman’s inspired discovery that “nature is a hoax” with a little help from his friends.

Life and Family: Lynn and I have been married for 21 years. We have 5 children, Penny (34), Jason (33), Christie (31), Kathrine (28) and Courtney (26).  We have 3 grandchildren, Taylor (13), Cheryl (11) and Payton (4) - we should have started with our grandchildren!!!  I was in banking for over 24 years; a stock broker for 4 years and am currently working in my church as a Pastoral Care Minister.  We currently live in Cypress, Texas where we enjoy the heat and humidity.  Lynn and I love to travel and take trips to the "hill country" of Texas where we have a second home.

Next 10 Years: I want to continue serving others.  I have learned over the years that one of the most important things in life is loving and caring for others - especially those in need and/or hurting.  It's amazing how meaningful your life becomes when you reach out and help those who are unable to help themselves.

Favorite Memories: My favorite memories of University City H.S. are the friendships I was truly blessed with over those 4 years.  There were so many people who contributed to my life over those years, and I will be eternally grateful for their love and the encouragement they gave me to be better than I thought I could be.  There are so many of you I want to personally thank, but I'm afraid I would leave someone out - so I will just say - "Thank you"!  I will say thank you to Sandy M. for taking the time to "hunt" me down in deep Texas and remind me of our 40th year reunion - "40 years - they go by in a blink".

Life and Family:  I am writing you from the holy land where I live and work, Clayton, Missouri. Not only that, but, I married above my caste, a Clayton girl who has the distinction of graduating from Ladue.  How much more of a traitor can I be?  Sherri and I have been married 28 years.  She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is in private practice with a child psychiatrist, specializing in severly sick children(think suicidal six year olds).  I went into the securities business and in 1983 became a partner and New York Stock Exchange seat holder with the firm. It hasn't been a bad career choice.  Our son Adam, age 24, lives in New York City and will be joining a large corporate law firm there in December.  Our daughter Melissa, age 23, finished Washington U. last December and has been working at her cousin's internet company here in Clayton.  By the way, that cousin's last name is Novack.  You see anytime I want a reunion I just go over to my sister's house.  She is married to Mark Novack, U City '66, and yes, all three of his kids are geniuses!

Next 10 Years:  My dad died at the age of 56.  I assumed I would too. So, I calculated to the hour when I would keel over.  When I didn't, I thought of this as "extra innings".  I recently sold myself to Morgan Stanley, so I'm under contract until 2010. If I make it until then, I think I'll enjoy life a little more.

Favorite Memories:  Sitting at the White Castle at Hodiamont and Delmar in Ben Paster's '57 Desoto with the push button transmission on the dash, when all of a sudden, he turns to me and tells me he's dating our English teacher, Judy Gray.  They were married for close to 30 years before she died prematurely of Pancreatic Cancer.

Laying Rubber on Groby Road

Just have to relate the 'laying' of rubber on groby road. A Friday night after a basketball game and probably wigwam. Chuck and I taking Saks home.
We decided to lay rubber in my turd brown 58 chevy. Revved up in neutral and slid the automatic transmission gear lever into drive.
RRROAR! Car lurched up and forward and stopped on a dime. CRASHH! The drive shaft dropped to the ground. The universal joints had sheared off. Are you sure this is how the 'hoods' do it?
Had to walk home and got no sleep waiting to tell on myself in the morning. I heard my dad get up and come out of the shower. I went in and spilled my guts--confessing all.
My dad never stopped the quick razor strokes as he shaved. How did he keep from laughing?
"You'll have pay for the repair. Have it towed to Mac Brown's Shell Station. Just remember 'You can abuse yourself, but you can't abuse a machine'". Never cracked a smile.
       thanks for letting me share.

Phone number: (314) 725-7090
Present occupation: Representative, Telemarketer, and Volunteer

Life and Family: Although I ultimately completed my high school education elsewhere, how well I remember both the good times and the bad, the fun, the laughter, and the hardships I experienced at University City High School.

I had some misfortune early in my life. When I was a year old my father noticed that I wasn't walking normally. I was diagnosed with a moderate case of cerebral palsy. Through medical care and determination I was able to overcome this obstacle.

My mother passed away on 12/8/83. My father is remarried a very nice lady named Selma. My family now includes a wonderful stepbrother Mark, and stepsister Barb, and my biological sister, Phyllis. After graduating from University City High School, Phyllis was admitted to some very prestigious schools and is now a college professor of English Literature in New York.

After attending University City High School, I graduated from University Academy, a small private high school in University City, which unfortunately no longer exists. I felt that the smaller class sizes and individual attention University Academy offered were essential to me and to my classmates and made me feel at home. I particularly enjoyed my classes in English Literature, Algebra, Biology, and French.

I am single and still live in the greater St. Louis area. I have been representing artist and sculptor Fredrick J. Meyer for 21 years. In that capacity, I sell his artwork and arrange shows for him. I attribute representing Fred to my love for the arts. I am also a part-time telemarketer for Premier Equity and do quite a bit of volunteer work. I volunteer at The Scholar Shop, the CWE Association, Susan Komen, Independence Center, and The Fabulous Fox Theater.

I enjoy singing and have plans in the near future to resume my voice lessons with my teacher Charlie Rose, who is also a faculty member of Country Day Mary Institute.

My father, who is now retired, operated a motion picture distribution and delivery service for many years. I hope someday I can become an exhibitor, because films are in my blood.

Next 10 Years: I would like to operate a movie theater someday.

Sam Kallenberg here. I now live in Durham, North Carolina and work as a landscaper. I play Bluegrass music and participate in activities of the Baha'i Faith, which was founded in 1844 by Baha'u'llah (the Glory of God.) The Faith teaches the Unity of mankind, the oneness of religions, and the oneness of God.
I have lived in many different places and done many types of work. I have worked variously as a saw mill man, a cowboy, a teacher, a commercial fisheman, a forester, a musician, a fish processor, various construction trades, a cook, a painter, and a wrangler. I have resided in Tennessee, Missouri, Texas, Colorado, Oregon, Alaska, and now North Carolina.
My U City days made quite an impression on me. I will never forget Mr. Fendelman and Mr. Weidegar's English/U.S. History class. I was the kid who played banjo, as did Bob Abrams, and I also hung out the top story window in Mr. Hale's choatic Chemistry class. U City really opened my mind to the concept of parallels between major religions.
Let's all follow Bob Dylan's admonition and stay "Forever Young."

E-mail address:  designlady5@juno.com
Present occupation:  Sales/Interior Design

Life and Family:  I've lived in Dallas, TX for the past 37 years.  Was married from 1972 to 1975 - no children.  Worked for American Honda Motor Co. for 15 years and still own a Honda - love those cars!  Had my own interior design business for 8 years and for the past 10 1/2 years have been in sales at a fine furniture store in the Dallas area.  I've been going to international folk dancing and contra dances for over 30 years and enjoy the people and the exercise.  I also enjoy gardening, yoga and pilates, reading, and taking care of my multiple cat household.

Five years ago I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Thanks to a wonderful Healing Touch therapist it was caught early and I was able to beat it in only four months with an organic diet, herbs, and other natural therapies. The best part of the organic diet was that I lost weight and feel so much better.

The bad news is that I'll miss the reunion.  The store that I work at is closing.  Since Sept. 10 is our last day in business I want to be here to assist my customers.  The good news is that the family I work for own four other stores and I'll still have a job at a store that is closer to my home.

Achieve Next 10 Years:   In the next year I would like to find a new career - outside of retail so I can have weekends off to be with my family and friends, and enjoy holidays!  (My sister Ellen also lives in Dallas.) And I'd like to do volunteer work again.

Favorite Memories:  Meeting Diane Bernstein to talk in the hall before classes;  a dear male friend (not in our class)teaching me how to French kiss at Hamburger Heaven;  dancing with a girlfriend in her bedroom - I refused to dance with my date in public at the sock hop; WigWam; Miss Bowers playing "The House of the Rising Sun" on her guitar in the classroom; being a bridesmaid for the first time at the wedding of Eva Kopetti and Bob Kintner.

Present occupation: Lawyer/Partner

Life and Family: I became a grandfather to 2 very cute grandsons (3 years old, 7 months old) by my daughter Lauren (29) who lives with her husband Ethan in Salt Lake City, UT, where Ethan is a resident physician.  I am vicariously enjoying the activities of my son Joshua (26), who is doing a start-up software business involing video and the internet in San Francisco, where he is living in a rooming house on the corner of, would you believe, Haight and Ashbury (which I am told is somewhat different from what it was in the 60's).

In 1997 I remarried a wonderful gal, Sharon, who was a fashion designer for 20 years in New York.  She joined me in Washington, D.C., and after a short period of time, decided that since there was no fashion industry in Washington, or according to her no fashion whatsoever, to go to law school.  She is now engaged in an exciting new career in Government relations/lobbying.

The upshot for me was that I went from being an average to poor dresser to being one of the better dressers in my law firm, Venable LLC, where I have a very satisfying career as an Intellectual Property lawyer, specializing in patent law.  With a significant foreign clientele, mainly in Europe and Israel, we have the opportunity to travel frequently to those locations.  I also have the pleasure of helping to raise two exceptional step-daughters, Michaela (17) who is currently a Page in the House of Representatives and loving the experience, and Aliyah (13) who is very artistic and a joy to watch grow up.  On the whole the last ten years have been filled with much happiness, interjected with extraordinary sadness over the loss of my older brother Myron (51) to a heart attack and my oldest brother Joe (59) to lung cancer.

Next 10 Years
: I would like to achieve enough financial security to ease into a nice retirement, shuttling between East Hampton, New York, where we have a second home, and possibly Sun Valley, Idaho, where we love to ski—and to otherwise just enjoy the achievements of my kids, grandkids, steps, nieces and nephews (8 in all) and grandnieces and grandnephews (11 in all).

Favorite Memories
: As an honorary member of the graduating class (I actually graduated from Parkway Central H.S.), my fondest memories go back to elementary school (Delmar Harvard): playing rugby on the blacktop during class recesses; summer day camp with my Delmar Harvard friends and our counselor Sandy Pomerantz, who could swish hook shots over and over from center court; playing Khoury League baseball, mostly in Heman Park; stickball in the street—all with my friends, Steve Kohn, Earl Steiner, Gary Cutter, Gary Schechter, Mark Rubin, Jay Schucart, David Lang, Mark Minkes, Allan Barth, and too many more to name; and to Junior High School (Hanley) beginning with that fabulous 7th grade year with the endless Bar Mitzvahs parties every weekend (I still have cufflinks gifted or re-gifted to me at my own Bar Mitzvah); our social club Achim (you know who you are) which provided an instant platform for sports, parties; and community service projects.  My whole Hanley Junior H.S. experience is one big, fond memory, except for perhaps being scared shitless one day by Johnny Mezinas (is he still alive? that was a tough Greek crowd), when Pete Goldring squished his fingers between two lunch tables, and Johnny thinking it was me, did something mean like threaten my life as retribution!!  Ahhh, those were the years.

Present occupation: acupuncturist, teacher, writer,  part-time ceramic artist

Life and Family:   I continue to practice acupuncture and related healing arts.  I teach a lot related to oriental medicine, meditation, relaxation and stress reduction. I have a regular radio show called "Time to Relax" and a regular newspaper column called "Way of Life".  I still love organic gardening, singing with friends, cooking, playing the saxaphone, and being with my older and less available kids. I stay in touch with my family as much as I can, though none of them are still in St. Louis  I just came around on my 11th year after a breast cancer diagnosis...and feel confirmed and affirmed in my non-conventional approach to healing. I'm curious how many other women from our class, after the nuclear fall out, etc, of our childhoods, also had a diagnosis of breast cancer in the past 10 or 15 years.

Next 10 Years:  Getting involved on a more global scale with some of my "pet" causes such as sustainable agriculture, preventive medicine, sustainable infant feeding (i/e/ human milk), meditation and other spiritual practices.  Playing my tenor saxaphone more. Teaching more  about my life-long practice and skills related to acupuncture and oriental medicine. Hanging out with friends and singing more.  More Peace work whenever and wherever possible.

Favorite Memories:  Looking back, I think there was a great balance and mix of social, academic and extracurricular  (including music, dance, chorus and the musical) life.  I loved it all, and people still hate me when I tell them that I really enjoyed high school! I guess I'd especially point to the music, the singing and the "pro show".  I also loved Wigwam and dancing every Friday night. Now I sing every Friday night with friends.

Spouse: Robert Rich (U. City '64)
Phone Number: (314) 322-3287
E-mail Address: rrich328@earthlink.net
Present Occupation: Real Estate.

Life and Family: I had a party event decorating business for 18 years, but retired.  I was loosing my entrhusiasm and decided there were other career opportunities I wanted to pursue.  I then received my brokers license in real estate.  I decided to rehab some properties in the city.  I was really excited about reviving some of the old beautiful homes in that area and becoming part of the revitalization in the city.  It was incredible to see these uninhabitable properties turn into beautiful homes.  I have now put that on hold and I am helping my daughter develop a new sub franchise out of Memphis.  We will be opening 40 of these restaurants.  The name is Lenny's Sub Shop.  There will be 15 in St. Louis and 25 in the eastern part of Missouri.  Our flagship store just opened a month ago and it is located at Elm and Big Bend.  You are all welcome to visit.  You will know my daughter, Danielle, as people often think she is my clone.  I still like to work out, but my new found love is golf.  I am now playing 3 times a week, but I really stink.  I have made some fabulous friends and we call ourselves the "giggle golfers".

We also love to travel.  Have been to England, French Riveara, and recently went to Italy.  We have also been on some great cruises.

The most heart warming moment as a parent was watching my son finish medical school at Wake Forest University.  He is now practicing at Rowan County Hospital in North Carolina.  He has been married for 7 years to my FABULOUS daughter in law. She is a lovable, and joyous addition to our family.

Next 10 Years
:
My ambition is to help my daughter with her restaurant expansion.  It keeps me busy and I can be a source of support.
My next ambitiion is to be a grandmother.  Our kids are adopting after several miscarriages and I hope the adoption is complete by year end.
I hope to continue with my golfing and traveling.  Of course, staying healthy is so important at this time of our lives.

Life and Family: I have been a corporate attorney in a large St. Louis Law Firm.  For 5 years of "purgatory", I was the managing partner of the firm.  I finally had an epiphany:  I gave one year notice to my firm that I would quit all management duties at the firm; Sandy & I bought a vacation home in Cozumel, Mexico; and I accepted an adjunct professorship at Washington U. Present occupation: Principal/Architect, Director of Healthcare and Higher Education Design

Life and Family: Ruth-Ellen and I have been married for almost 34 years.  The children are grown - and we're "empty-nesters" with a new puppy!  Sam (29) is an attorney in Chicago; Sara (27) leads the AOL Latino website photo editing division in suburban Washington, DC; and Lauren (24)teaches oral deaf education at Central Institute for the Deaf in St. Louis.  Ruth-Ellen has moved beyond her careers as a teacher and then a real estate agent; now she is a community volunteer.

In 2003, I sold my original architectural firm and joined the St. Louis office of ACI/Boland to be the Director of Healthcare, Senior Living, and Higher Education Design; my practice covers an area from Minnesota to Arkansas, and Kansas/Oklahoma to Indiana.  Also in 2003, after serving many years on appointed boards and commissions in the City of Clayton, I ran and was elected to a seat on the Board of Aldermen; I was re-elected in April 2006.  It is challenging and exciting with an excellent professional staff and a very active, vocal constituency.  Also during the last ten years I have been a member and vice president of the Central Agency for Jewish Education.

In our "free time", Ruth-Ellen and I travel often to visit Sam and Sara, make yearly ski trips to Whistler, BC, summers on Nantucket Island, sojourns to Santa Fe for the opera season, and other domestic and foreign trips.  Also, we just adopted a new puppy, Cookie - just like having a baby again!

Life and Family:  After being diagnosed with systemic lupus in 1969 I have gone on to lead a full life.  The disease has been controlled and now that I'm older there are very few "flares".  I am extremely lucky to have been able to work full time all these years and travel extensively.  For my 50th birthday I went to Churchill, Manitoba Canada to photograph polar bears.  Living "captive" on the tundra was amazing.  There were bears, snowy owls and arctic fox everywhere and aurora was visible the entire 10 days.  It was the journey of a lifetime!  I still volunteer at the Fox Theatre on Saturday nights and have the title "Head Usher" which means much responsibility and allows me to see many of our classmates when they come to see Broadway!  The last four years I've been extremely active in ABWA (American Business Women's Association) serving four terms as newsletter editor, two years as president and this year as vice president of the Northwest Charter Chapter. I was elected the 2005 Woman of the Year and will be attending the National Conference in California shortly after the reunion.  I travel as time allows and spend about 10 days each winter in Puerto Vallarta Mexico...it's not a bad life.  My companion cat, Mimi, passed away two years ago at the age of 18.  I now have two rambunctious siblings who are adorable and are named Nick and Nora after "The Thin Man" characters.  The newest thing in my life is having my sight back!  After wearing glasses since first grade I am now without glasses thanks to cataract surgery.

Next 10 Years:  I would like to retire by age 60 and travel to far off lands to photograph animals in the wild.  October 2007 I hope to help in a study of dolphins in Belize.

Favorite Memories:  It's hard to describe, but everything about U City was great -- Wig Wam, Hamburger Heaven, Golden Fried Chicken, Toddle House, Varsity and Tivoli theatres, the Loop, being able to go anywhere on a bus or street car, knowing everyone on your block and walking to school. Nothing can compare to the education we got at U City during the 60's, we were truly blessed!

Favorite memories include being a lead in The Red Mill and playing opposite Max, Pro Shows and musical concerts and the sad memory of Pro telling us that President Kennedy was shot and moving to the next hour where you could hear a pin drop in those halls!  Of course my favorite teachers were Pro, Miss Zaman and Mr. McKinney.

Life and Family: It has definitely gone by quickly.  I remember thinking to myself, "ok, I have 10 years to get myself back into shape!"  How fast time flies.  It's been 10 years and no luck!
I am a single mom and my son is a Junior at Mizzou.  He is studying Mech Engineering.  In the last 10 years, I have lived in Atlanta and in 1997 moved back to STL.  I have worked at the same company since my return.  I live in Dogtown and (appropriately so) have 4 dogs - I'd have more but they'd throw me in jail; or my family would have me commited!  I don't have much of a life...working and watching baseball.

Next 10 Years:
I would like to retire and let someone else pay the bills.  Hopefully, I will start my own foster animal program.

Favorite Memories:
You know, after reading everyone else's comments, I think that I must have been at a different U City HS!  I don't really have many memories of those years..however, I do remember all the crushes that I had on the Jewish boys whose moms wouldn't let them date me!  I was raised by a single mom and I had 3 younger brothers; therefore, I didn't date
much.  I spent most of my time babysitting.  Some of you might know my brothers - Dan used to own Spectrum ( a head shop) in Webster Groves, Shane, and Kelly who moved to Houston to live with me when my mom died in 1972. As best as I try, all I seem to remember is Wig Wam, Drivers Ed class with Gary B and David S - Nasty Boys!!! I really don't remember any of the teachers except that mean French teacher that insisted on embarrassing me in front of my (then) boyfriend, Al Recht.  Some of you might remember that Al was in the picture when Jim Harrell decided he'd rather be with Elaine Frankel....What?  Me hold a grudge? Never!  Some of my closest friends were Rich H, Jerry C, Robbie H, Bonnie H, Dave M, Dani W, etc.

E-mail Address: goldtrisafe@aol.com
Present Occupation: ceo/owner

Life and Family: My wife, Laura, and myself have now been married and living in Florida for the past 28 years. In the past year, our 24 year old daughter, Heather, graduated from Southeastern and married Josh in April and live in Jacksonville. David, 23, is in the Navy and stationed in Norfolk, and just gave us our first grandson, Drake, in February. Elyse, 16, is a junior, and our adopted son, Arthur, 11, is in 5th grade. It seems everyone else are empty-nesters and we still have an eleven year old. But, you'll see, he keeps us young!
We own an industrial supply company ( or it owns us) and if anyone is interested in buying, we're interested in retiring!
Over the last ten years, we became active in fostering teenage boys, and going to a women's shelter and feeding and being a friend to the people that live there.
We have developed a passion for boating(power), since there are a few places to boat in Florida, and one day, would like to live on a boat.

Next 10 Years:
I would like to work less, hopefully, retire and spend more time helping people who live in shelters and street people. Laura and I are believing we can get our captains licences and cruise the Carribean. Looking forward to seeing our younger children through school and having many more grandchildren. Would like to increase my walk with God. I look forward to my jokes being even funnier and my wife even hopes I can get some new material!

Favorite Memories
: Friends, sports, Saturday matinees, riding our bikes to Clayton and getting in trouble ( does anyone remember e-day). Steak n Shake, McCrary's, Rinaldis ( I used to flip a coin with Jack to see if he paid or I paid-I don't remember that I ever had to pay, and then they went out of business, I've always felt bad about that!).

Life and Family: I bought a lake front cottage in West Union, South Carolina, right on beautiful Lake Keeowee near Clemson, South Carolina about 2 hours north of Atlanta. I have a book on the internet that is Public Domain if you google my name, it is called Twilight's First Gleaming, about spiritual growth, concepts of Karma, and Astrology. It documents my 19 years on Radio and TV in Los Angeles from 1983 to 1999, on KFOX, KROQ, KMET, KNTF, KIIS, CRN, and ABC7, Eyewitness News as a Talk Radio Show Host, Journalist, Reporter, Entertainment reporter, and teacher of Astrology, Metaphysics, Meditation techniques, Course in Miracles, Higher Consciousness, Homeopathic Health techniques, and Self-Realization. You will also find my record as Sports reporter and prognosticator in several capacities including professional accomplishments by googling my name, or searching for it.
I have had a great blessed, healthy, prosperous life, and have great friend and family support!

I have been in constant touch with two of my best pals through phone and email, Gary Bernath and David Strauss. My relationships these last 40 years after a failed marriage and no children has been like a series of James Bond movies. Currently, I'm single and dating, but nothing serious. I had a Pomeranian Dog, named Tiger, who died a few years ago. My hobby is Exotic Singing finches from all over the World. I have 4, and one just died. I live in a 38ft Luxury Motor Home (kind of like John Madden has), in Los Angeles County, California, near beautiful Lake Castaic, (The lake of the L.A. Lakers), which I go to daily to have lunch. So, I have a house in South Carolina by Lake Keeowee, and the Rig in California. My Mom, Bea is healthy and 88, and my Dad, Fred, is healthy and 90. My sister is class of 60, Melanie married, with 2 children, and 7 grandchildren, and is healthy and active.

I was fortunate to do classified Astrology work for Nancy Reagan for Ronald's first Inauguration (!),when I warned them of a possible asssassination attempt, which unfortunately occurred. I was on the late show, the Arsenio Hall show, America with Morgan Fairchild, and was able to host, produce and direct 3,400 TV and Radio Shows, plus 10,000 commercials, and 400 shows on ABC7, Eyewitness News, Los Angeles, being an entertainment reporter. My best interview was with Debbie Reynolds in Las Vegas. I was on tour with Boy George in 1986 and warned him of a possible abuse problem in his horoscope prior to his problems. I was fortunate to travel with George C. Scott on the QE2, in 1982. He encouraged me to go into show business, and was a critical role model for my show business career, due to the 30 days I spent with him. I also met Art Buchwald then and toured Martinique with him, which was pivotal in my life's choices.

My life is good, I am blessed, happy, free, financially secure, thank goodness, and have little regret.

Next 10 years:
I would like to be able to help manage our family business if needed, but my 90 year old dad was encouraged to stay on the job as it keeps him healthy. My focus is on health, happiness, freedom, meditation, and remaining confident and self-assured. I plan trips to Amsterdam, Australia, New Zealand, Canada,Germany, China, and Scandinavia, as an ongoing quest to complete my many world travels. My favorite places in the World are where my cottage is on Lake Keeowee, South Carolina; the Panama Canal; Kona, Hawaii; Cabo San Luca, Mexico; and Las Vegas.

I plan on writing a few books, some of which may include the inner child, Astral Projection, a documentary on my life, and a book of poems. I may also publish or produce two science fiction rock operas that I wrote in the 80's. I have been active in encouraging World Peace, Animal Rights, Women's Rights, vegetarianism, helping the homeless, and research into heart disease.

I created my own pension, so I have a fixed income, with little debt, and really have no reason to work. I consider myself very lucky and blessed, and hope that the Lord continues to bless me in good health and happiness.

Favorite Memories: I enjoyed being the History Proctor for Mr. Luke for 2 years, grading all the tests, including finals and mid terms. I look back on that as a lot of power that I didn't realize I had. I also enjoyed the Washington Trip immensely, although I may have chosen the wrong lady to be my girlfriend. Oops. Sorry, Marilyn. I goofed. I also enjoyed being told I was one of the best students in the history of U. City in Typing by Mr. Rock, when I typed 60 wpm at one time. I now type nearly 90 wpm. I was proud to be elected to the House of Representatives and Senior Cabinet, as one day I decided to try and get in, and I easily did. For that, I thank my fellows in the homeroom, with apologies to Susan Losse & Mel Martin (LOL). I totally enjoyed the play I was in, "Dosvedanya, Dosvedanya Petitsa" ("Bye Bye Birdie" in Russian), even though I had a small part, as I went on to get a degree in Speech, Drama, and English in 1970 at Missouri/Central Methodist University in Columbia, and Fayette, Missouri.

I very much enjoyed when a group of us guys broke the MONOPOLY RECORD over the Christmas Holidays one year, as we stayed up all night and played for a couple weeks nonstop to temporarily hold the record in Guiness Books. Getting drunk for the first time and being busted at Wigwam with Michael Malevan will be something I may never forget and always have to live with. My relationship with Gail Goldstein was special, as she is, and I will never forget her for that. Thanks Gail.

I was disappointed that I wasn't chosen for counselor at Camp White Cloud, and will always feel discriminated against, but my grades were always C's and A's, so teachers didn't know what to make of me. Ms. Bowers blew my mind failing me and 30 others in English, one year, when I went to summer school to make up. That was the only F I ever got in High School, and I was always miffed at her for that. IS she still alive? Ms. Eveloff was really something. We were all dazzled by her charm, and it was tough to pay attention to her lectures, ahem.

I want to thank My mom and dad for preventing me from playing football, as I'm sure I would have gotten hurt. Mom has been very intuitive about that. U.City would have won the Championship had I played (Grin).I went on to coach and play on a team at Central Methodist in 1968 that won a championship in football. I also went on to win 9 championships in flag football over 20 years with 9 to 12 year-old boys and girls in L.A. I ended up being quite a street basketball player and jogger in years that followed, too.

I wish I would have studied more, as I hoofed it through high school and rarely picked up a book, doing most everything last minute and faking it all. The cheating that went on in Chemistry and other subjects amongst the guys was widespread, intense, enormous, and I was happy NOT to be a part of that. The files some of the guys had were huge. Sorry about that, Mr. Hale, but it happened, as you trusted everyone. I also remember the secret romantic and sensuous encounters that went on in Audio Visual rooms, before school started, in doorways, and so on, after school, and being with some provocative ladies when I least expected it. Thanks for the education, gals. I enjoyed my memories of U. City as high school was easy for me, my friends were great, some life-long, and my relationships in general ok. My REAL Girlfriend was a secret, as she was 6'3", named Carol Jean and lived in Manchester. I regret to this day I did not marry her, as we had a honeymoon type experience, and due to a religous difference I chose not to marry her. BIG MISTAKE. Carol, God Bless you, wherever you may be. Those weekends in the hotel rooms were unfogettable. This is true confession, right? I mostly remember a great amount of comaraderie that went on between myself and a bunch of guys who eventually pledged AEPI, ZBT, and Sammy at the University of Missouri. Being at Mizzou was fun with all those guys, but I partied too much, and transferred to Central Methodist in Fayette in my junior year, then graduated with Honors.

I will always remember U. City, Class of 66 with a twinkle in my eye, and love in my heart. In retrospect I should have spent much more time with Drama, school politics, and basketball. Oh well.

Robert Elliott Mellman

bob mellman

Spouse: Susan Buckley
Phone Number: (973) 744-6610
E-mail Address: robert.e.mellman@jpmorgan.com
Present Occupation: Economist at JPMorgan

Life and Family: Between the time I graduated from UCHS and age 35 or so, life worked out better than I might have imagined. I graduated from Swarthmore College, went directly on to get a PhD from MIT, found an interesting job working for an economic research and public policy consulting firm in Boston, and was blessed with a happy marriage and two young sons. Harder times followed. A job loss forced a painful uprooting of the family to the New York area, and soon thereafter I was diagnosed with a rare, degenerative kidney disease.

I feel very lucky about the way things have turned out since. My brother, Richard, donated a kidney and pretty much cleared up the medical problems.  I have been working as a research economist at JPMorgan for over 20 years and continue to like both the work and my colleagues, (but still have a tough time with the early start to the work day). Most important, I adore my family. My wife Susan is a psychologist and both sons are still living reasonably near our home in Montclair, N.J., one as a teacher in the local schools and the other for a hedge fund in NY. A few years ago we downsized our house and bought a weekend place up near the Berkshires, an area I have grown to love. Life is both demanding and rich.

Next 10 Years: I do not think my life will change too much any time soon.  But I hope to work a little less, travel a little more, give back a little more, and find time to work on my tennis game

Favorite Memories:
I was not especially good at being a teenager and, in retrospect, the best thing about UCHS was the large community of friends who shared this disability. I do have happy memories of evenings at Rinaldi’s, helping to write the senior comedy show, and Evelyn Patterson’s patience with this exasperating Latin student. My memory of UCHS circa 1966 is that of an academic powerhouse.

Life and Family:  I am still practicing with the same medical group that I have been with for 20 years.  I work with four wonderful eye surgeons in a great facility.  We have many good friends in San Diego (33 years), but, imported our closest ones from U. City.  I continue to play racquetball regularly with Alan Barth and tennis on a weekly basis with Gary Saks and Alan.  Adie and I have two sons who we truly enjoy and a wonderful daughter-in-law.  We are fortunate to have a grandson living in San Diego.  If we had known how much fun grandchildren were, we would have had him first!  For more info--read Adie's questionnaire-she always edited what I wrote at U. City (don't tell Ms. Rothschild) and still continues to outshine me!

Next 10 Years:  I will gradually get used to people calling me "sir".  I will slow down in my practice, enjoy the grandchildren (hope more will come), travel, keep up the sports and exercise, and take up fishing again.

Favorite Memories:  Long lasting friendships.  It was a special high school experience with wonderful friends and teachers that led to lasting relationships.  I haven't really lived in U. City since high school, but, still feel a strong connection.  I am looking forward to renewing friendships in September and want to thank the hard working members of the planning committee for making it happen!

Life and Familysherri and i have been married for 24 years (but who's counting), and we have one son, sam who is 15 and a freshman at clayton high school. sometimes you go a long way to get back to where you were since i live only  about one mile from where i lived in high school and my office was in clayton until a little over 5 years ago. we are raising our son and taking the occasional trip to places warm with beaches or cold with mountains and snow, or the dreaded family trip for simchas and other deleterious reasons.sam is a great kid,  a good student (hurray) and a very good athlete and soccer player(its a miracle) and pretty funny.

Next 10 Years: as for the future, i would like to retire in about 9 years. i have been practicing for 31 years and 40 years sounds like a pretty good number on which to stop wandering in the desert. so hopefully, i will have gotten this lawyering thing down perfect, and i can stop practicing. where we will go, i do not know. maybe sherri and i will do the snow bird bit.i would like to study, read, travel more widely excercise more and get my weight down again.

Favorite Memories 1. married. 2.24 years. 3. 1 son 15 years. 4. 0. 5.0. 6.1 clayton after graduation fron law school.7. one apartment and one house, i guess that would be 2 homes. 8.1, lawyer. 9.joe hale, that was easy. 10. chemistry. 11. ? 12.almost anything out of motown stax or atlantic records. 13. the great escape. 14. too many thins. 15. i always tried to do the right thing. as for the balance of the questionaire, iam missing a chunk of my hair and i will shave it all off if i lose much more.1 am probably not quite 50% heavier than when i graduated.. i have no particular hobbies outside of reading. beside my weight and thinning hair (who wants fat hair) it is the relization that  i am an adult but without quite losing the feeling that i should know what i want to do when i grow up. as for my legacy, i would like my son to be able to say that i was agood and positive influence on his life as i am able to say about my father.

Present occupation: Manufacturers Representative

Life and Family:  As the great 20th Century philosopher, Joaquin Andujar, used to say "YANEVERKNOW." When I was at U-City there were two things I knew for sure: I would never leave St. Louis and being the least religious Jew at U-City I would never get involved with a synagogue. Well I have lived in Northern California since 1970; and because I was inter-married (my wife was Conservative and I was Reform) I am a Bal-Shofar (they tell me I'm pretty good), and I was president of a congregation for five years.

When I was in college there were two things I was sure of: I never wanted to be a salesman (it is a demeaning position that anyone could do so why would you go to college for four years just to be a salesman), and I could never take the uncertainty of being self employed. For the past 25 years I have been a moderately successful self employed salesman.

Despite these "set backs" I could not be better off. I have been married to the same woman for almost 37 years. I have two grown sons, each married, each owning their own house (no mean feat in California) and by the time of the reunion each with two children.

Next 10 years:   I want to take my grandkids to lots of baseball and hockey games; I want to see a game in every MLB Stadium and NHL Arena; I want to learn more jokes and how to tell them better; politically, I live in the "Blueist" part of the "Blueist" State and I want to work to make it "Bluer"; I want to be more of a smart-ass (it's more endearing when your old); I want to start to retire and complete the task somewhere between our 70th or 80th reunion.

Favorite Memories:  As the fattest kid in our class I have many great memories: Golden Fried Chicken Loaf, Hamburger Heaven (with double sauce), Ed's White Front, Sam the Watermelon Man, Chuck-A Burger, Jack and Jill's (aka: Simple Sid's), Velvet Freeze, Stop Light, White Castle (they're not the same frozen), and Frank and Helen's (I started going when it was just Frank's). It's a good thing I never found Ted Drew's as I may have exploded. With that said, I weigh less now than I did in June of 1963, but my wife will assure you more than I weighed when we were married.
